A painter all my life, I’ve written several children’s art books. A Gift from Brittany is a memoir of the time I lived in a remote hamlet in Brittany in the 1960s. It was published by Gotham Books in 2008 and is coming out in paperback next week.

I’m pleased to give out a limited number of books to those who are interested for reviewing purposes. Here is a brief summary of the memoir.

“A Gift from Brittany” A memoir about a young American artist in France in the 1960’s
Published by Gotham Books, to be released in paperback March 9th.

As an aspiring artist in my late twenties, I left the comfort of my Chicago suburb for France in 1960, to follow the footsteps of the Impressionist painters and to paint. Once in Paris, dazzled by everything French, I fell in love and married an exciting French painter named Yves. When Yves bought half of a remote and ancient hamlet in the Breton countryside, I found myself in an unfamiliar world where modern comforts were nonexistent and the lives and customs of the villagers had hardly changed since the Middle Ages. When my seemingly idyllic marriage began to unravel, I turned to an elderly, illiterate peasant woman who lived across the road. Jeanne Montrelay was sixty-eight. She had three cows to her name and had never left the village. In spite of staggering differences, we became inseparable and transformed each others' lives. "A Gift from Brittany" brings to life a lost culture that completely changed the way I saw the world.

Your memoir sounds fascinating! While I have no artistic talent whatsoever, I was a French major and spent a little bit of time in France. I long to return.

I would be honored to review your book, if you would desire. I am relatively new to the book blogging world, and therefore have little online review experience, but if you would like to preview what I have done so far, please visit: http://mycozybooknook.blogspot.com
