A friend and I are always on the look out for a good old fashion scary read. For a few years now we have failed to find anything that makes us want to sleep with the lights on.
Here is short list of some of the scariest books I have read.
The Amity Horror is a book that scared us both and neither can look at a pig mask without thinking of this book
What really made my skin crawl was:
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman The ending will haunt me forever!
Pet Cemetery by Stephen King For some reason I almost could not finish the book when I made the connection between the cemetery and the child's death..
IT by Stephen King. I now hate clowns with balloons!!
The Exorcist by Blatty..I still can not view the any of the movie or hold the book.

What would you include in your list? Which is the scariest in your list and why?

The one that kept me up at night was Phantoms by Dean Koontz. Yikes!!

I really like a lot of Koontz's book. The Bad Place is my favorite.

I had trouble sleeping after reading The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

Everytime I closed my eyes I could imagine Vlad Tepes looming over me.

I have! had this book on my TBR shelf for about 18 months. I really need to read it

The Historian was a great book! I read it in a weekend. I could not put it down. I borrowed it from the library but ended buying myself a copy. It is a must read again for me.

Yup, The Historian is a great book! I read it again despite the fact that I was scared out of my wits. Our book club discussed it last year and I had to collect some ghastly Vlad the Impaler photos to create a slideshow about the book for the discussion

The time I read it, my mom was out of the country and my sister out of town so I was all alone in the house! I slept with the lights on, haha...

Wow, guess I really need to dig out my copy of The Historian - I have owned it for a few years now and it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of my TBR pile!

Great topic! I can't think of any but will keep checking back!

It's been a while since I've sunk my teeth into something scary- The Exorcist is the top of my list! I remember reading that as a teenager and having some sleepless nights. I'd have to add The Shining by Stephen King....I'll keep checking back here- would love to add to my 'list' with some scary reads!
