Has anyone had any experience with SPR-Self Publishing Review? The price point ($40) isn't so bad, but I'd still like a referral with this.

i would suggest that you opt for The Bookplex

They charge $75 for getting you 10 complete detailed reviews and $40 for getting you 5 reviews.

Thanks, I will look into that information and check out the site

I review for that site!

Paying for reviews is generally frowned upon--readers don't always know what reviews were paid for, but if/when they find out, they tend to be angry. Paying for a review doesn't necessarily mean that you're paying for a GOOD review--but that's the impression that's out there, anyway.

Just sayin'. There are better, safer ways to get reviewed.

Thanks for your input, this is all very helpful.

I agree that readers are eventually turned off by PAID reviews, that was also why Amazon changed the rule which affected those of us who got reputable non-paid for reviews. With your Bio Maario you should be able to get real editorial reviews at no charge!

Thanks I appreciate that.

I'd also advise against paid reviews.  Readers view it as dishonest.

I really do like RYCJ's idea of paid critiques though.  I think that one of the biggest problems I've run across when reading self-published books is the prevalence of grammatical errors and editing issues.  Having a few people read it over and critiquing it (preferably before publication) would be a great idea, and knowing that a book has been thoroughly critiqued would make me more likely to read it.

As far as getting reviews for your book, I'd recommend looking for reviewers (and this Ning is a great place to start) who do it as a hobby.  There are a lot of people here who review self-published books, and in fact, many here prefer them.

If you want reviews for your book, I suggest going on a book tour instead of paying for paid reviews. You'll probably get around 5-10 reviews out of a month-long book tour, not to mention that you will be featured on 20 or something blogs with other things like guest posts, author interviews, giveaways, etc. That's a lot more publicity than you can get from simply one review. On top of that, a book tour is less expensive than these paid reviews as well. They generally cost between $29/week and $99/a month.

I'd recommend you look at blogs. Most bloggers would do it for free if they liked the book. Plus, people don't like reviews that have been paid for as it might not necessarily be honest.

Amen! There are literally dozens of blog sites out there where individuals might offer to review your book for free!

Check out the "Review Site" in the right-hand margin of my blog.

I will check it out and thanks for the information.
