Spam Comes to Book Blogs

If it isn't bad enough cleaning it out of your inbox, it seems they won't leave you alone even on a social network.
Usually when I get an email saying someone has left a comment on my page, or sent me a message it is a fun moment. Unfortunately tonight the comment left on was:

"Hi,
Kind regard,i am Anita,tall,slim,fair,and a very good girl....."

Pure unadulterated spam. How disappointing, upsetting and infuriating!

Is there any way we can nip this sort of thing in the bud before it gets out of control and damages a great network?

Hey Al! I'm so glad you're on Book Blogs. Small world. The spam bugs me too. It's not as bad if you just watch when you add someone as a friend.

Yeah, I am on a couple of blog catalogs and almost everyone there seems to be wanting to "be your friend" to push very dodgy sites.

I noticed that too. But most of my dealings on this site have been legitimate.

I agree. I had a guy on twitter who I was NOT following, and he was NOT following me, and yet he took up more than half my page with his spam ads. I couldn't get rid of him. I reported him but they didn't do anything about it. So, I wrote to his page and asked him nicely to stop putting his ads on my page. He left even more. I was infuriated, so I left pages of warnings to all twitter users that he is a spammer and to watch out for him. He got the message and stopped spamming me to death. I hated to do it, but the proper way and the conventional way wasn't working.

Spam is a pain pure and simple.
It is a shame you were let down by the admin at Twitter.
So far anything I have reported here on bookblogs has been dealt with ASAP, which is really good to see.
Tricia seems to take her role seriously.
