Hmmm...that is interesting. I have seen the movies as well (with subtitles, of course :-) ). I did not know about the girlfriend issue. The family should split it with the girlfriend. I am sure she was very supportive during the writing process.
I recently gave the first book to my Mom to read. I have to admit that the beginning of one is a bit slow, but it takes off in chapter 2. So far, she says that she is enjoying it.
I hope you like them too! I think he is a great author!
I found out about Steg Larsson by watching the movies first, but in no particular order which didn't affect my enjoyment of the storyline. I then decided to read ' the girl who kicked the hornets' nest,’ which is the last one in the series. I have to say that, I don’t agree that they are too long and even though I knew the storyline from watching the films I was still engrossed with the book because I enjoyed the different characters and how they interacted within the story.
What is also interesting is that the first Swedish publisher who refused the manuscripts twice made the biggest publishing mistake ever. I know if the manuscripts had passed my way I would have signed him up straight away for many reasons.
I personally loved the books. I am a huge fan of Dennis Lehane and I put Larsson up there with Dennis. They are both great writers. I have never read a book that was too long. I love to read too much! The next book on my list is Gone With The Wind and it is pretty thick, but one of my fave movies. Cannot wait!!
I loved all 3 books, but also thought that they were at times all a bit too long and drawn out. They are brutal and dark and quite awesome in my humble opinion ^^ I must say though that I'm also heavily in love with the films (mind you, the original ones, not that ridiculous Hollywood remake). Rapache who plays Lisbeth Salander is amazing in every way.
Borough of Books
The actress who plays Lisbeth is gorgeous! I live in California and have yet to see the Hollywood version. I love to watch films that are foreign to me, so I watched the series using my Netflix account. I had to read the subtitles, which forces you to stay glued to the action. I really enjoyed the movies and felt they were "true" to the books that Larsson wrote.
