switching genres

Has anyone gone from one genre to a totally different one? How did you find writing in a new state of mind?

 I recently started writing for YA and find it refreshing to write from a young persons pov and using my own memories of the pain of growing up.

I am so glad I started this discussion - I am not alone!!  I've always written adult fiction and became bored with the last couple of novels I started and then put down. I think it was because I had a story in my mind but the plot wasn't strong enough to hold a story together that was of interest.

My first YA takes place in the 1930's and follows a young boy andhis sister trying to survive on their own. It is in the hands of an agent and I am waiting to see if she will take me on and try to sell the book.
