I'm looking to splash a bit of hard earned cash on some eBook advertising.

Has anyone had any good experiences with advertising online? What places have you found that give a good return for the investment / hits on web pages etc?

At the moment, I'm looking at Night Owl sci-fi dot com - they look good and seem to have some pretty good advertising rates.

I've got a new banner ad nearing completion and will probably follow up with a flash version with some eye-catching animation.

Thanks all,

This is really good information. I wonder what the average click-to-purchase ratio is for book ads through Google.

Thanks for this, I think others will find it helpful as well.

According to Google Analytics - the traffic from the Night Owl advert is somewhat dissapointing. I'll give it a little longer though before I give a proper opinion though.
Another thing that is helpful is just posting a link to your Amazon listing on Facebook every once in a while, letting your friends (and by extension, their friends, and their friends...).  Also, belonging to every reader/author site you can and making it known that you are available for interviews on Internet blog/radio shows.  I've done two or three, and saw an immediate jump in sales as a result.  You have to be a one-man advertising company.  Keep at it, and don't be discouraged; it'll happen for you.

Here's a question, have you seen any raised traffic overall this month, despite click throughs? I find when I go to sites with multiple advertisements, if I am interested I rarely click because I don't want to leave the site I'm currently on yet. (If I'm even aware you can click) I write it down on notepad or remember it to check it later. Others might be like me.

That would make a lot of sense and somewhat explain how I sell more books per day than clicks I receive from my ads.  Good deduction!

No. Overall traffic wasn't affected in a positive way at all - so colour me officially disappointed.

HOWEVER, we tried putting the Alter Inferno series at 99cents for a spell, and sales immediately took off overnight.

Elysium Burning was at #51 and #57 in it's categories on Amazon, and #7996 overall as a result. So, cheaper to burn a handful of dollars in royalties and get some SALES than spend money on a banner ad!!
