The Cover Question - Which One Would You Buy - Need Opinions

Cover #1 Above

Cover #2

As I prepare to release my debut novel in paperback, I hope to get opinions on which cover is the most marketable. I personally love cartoon covers but not everyone does. I notice the trend seems to be toward photo covers.

Assuming you'd buy one or the other, which one is most appealing?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

(BTW: For anyone interested, it's available on e-book)

Thank you so much!! I appreciate that.

Yes, the idea is that it will be a light fun read. That's good to know.

Yep, it sure will be available in paperback in about three weeks on Amazon and eventually B&N.

Cartoon covers don't work for me, I'm afraid. The first cover is better by default :) but it could be... spicier. Your name also seems kind of small on both covers - can anything be done about that?

I went a little bigger on my name. And used a heavier font. I think it looks better.

Yes, I do agree. Most people say they like to see different designs, but they tend to buy books with the same kinds of designs. Most people tend to like the stock photo covers. That's what I've noticed. But I like to get opinions.

For a comedy, I would lean towards #2. Ordinarilly I would have gone for #1, but I dont think it fits the type of story as well!

Good Luck!

KW

The second one!
I like the first one, I like to know that these could be real people I'm reading about.  thanks http://bookhimdanno.blogspot.com/2011/03/arc-giveaway-friday-ladys-...  We are giving away an ARC copy of The Lady's Slipper.  Follow, comment and you're in.  US only, ends 3/30/2011  Thanks
I like cover 1. But, I like seeing real people and real things on a cover more.
if your target market is YA, both covers will work.  it the story line is about one female and one male then cover 1.. if its about two guys and a girl. cover 2..  if the storyline can appeal to both YA and adults then i would go with cover 1
the graphic drawing definitely will appeal to the YA audience.  have you thought about doing a cartoon for cover one image?
cartoon image don't bother me but this onesays; YA,.  The drawing is even drawn like that of a person with early drawing skills or a professional that depict a drawing for YA/teen appeal.
hey, why the dude with the good angel looks angry? hmm,
wishing you well KL Brady.

That's a good question! You should read it and find out! LOL

BTW...the cover designer is definitely a professional who drew it to appeal for YA/teen. I showed her some of the Simon Romantic Comedy covers and she came up with this. I really like both a lot. That's why I'm gonna print books in both designs.
Cover 2 appeals to me more.  Mostly because I'm a visual artist and ex graphic designer.  I like the style.

Well, thank you guys for all the feedback. One thing is perfectly clear. Everybody has their own tastes and they will vary from person to person.

Since I'm indie publishing THIS book, I've decided to print up books with both covers and when I do book signings I'll sell both versions. That way I can capture both audiences who like illustrations and those who like the stock photos. If one outsells the other significantly then I'll probably reprint in that style.

Keep the opinions coming though. I enjoy hearing feedback. Thank you!
