When I loan a book out, I do it under the assumption that I'm never going to see it again. Maybe if you keep a little journal of who/what someone has it would be easier to track down later? Good luck to you!
I should probably make that assumption, too, since I rarely do get them back. Or stop lending. If I wrote down names in a journal, I'd most likely lose the journal, lol.
When I loan out books, I generally assume they won't come back to me. I don't mind, because if I'm loaning something out, I've already read it, and I hope that other people will enjoy it as well. One of the nicest things about print books is being able to pass them around and share them.
Sorry, I clicked the "x" thinking it would bring up a menu. oops!
I only know a couple people who will read the same stuff as I. And honestly, if I loan out books anymore, I do it under the assumption I won't get them back. But on occasion I have loaned out some of my very favorite series - which means I wanted them back. I told the person I've gotten a request from someone else to read the book and asked for it back. I get most of my books through Kindle now, so its not an issue. But I buy my favorite series in print, and I'm learning to be very picky with who I loan those to!
I generally do the same and assume I won't receive print books back, but I do keep a list of books I've loaned to friends. Generally, I loan a book to almost any friend but I'll also ask friends to loan me books when I'm itching to read a book they own. That way, it's not a bad or unequal situation. Good luck!
I lend books to people I trust, so I assume they'll return home... but my friends just don't seem to read very fast. :) One of them has had a book of mine since March. I'll have to ask for it back soon. Fortunately it's not one of my favorites.
No, I don't lend books but I do give away the occasional bag of books to bookish friends/relatives.
Actually, it even bothers me when someone insists I borrow one of their books. Don't they know what could happen?!
I do loan books, but after lots of disappointing episodes where I haven't got back books that are quite dear to me I am ruthless about who I loan them to. I only trust a handful of people!! If you want to keep track of who you do loan books to I suggest you use something like Library Thing. I use it and love it. It's basically an online community of people who talk books, but if you join up (which is free) you can actually catalogue your books and see your virtual library. There is also a specific function that allows you to mark a book if it's been loaned out and you can record when you loaned it and to whom. It's also just a great forum to talk books!! There are also a number of similar sites. Good Reads is another one of them but I haven't used that one myself.
