How do you feel about the vampire genre?
Please. No. More. Vamps!!!!!!
I read Twilight. I read Sookie Stackhouse.
Honestly, even those I feel are but pebbles in the rockslide of kitsch that is vampire books.
Vampire books are one of my favorite type of books to read. The Meyer series deffinately take a different take or look on the centuries old legend. Each author takes the typical vampire and most of the time forms it to a sort of modern day vampire. Each vampire book is different. Meyer for example makes them sparkle in the sun. many authors like to put there own twist to make theirs stand out from the rest.
Here are some of my favorite books and series about or based on vampires.
*The Vladimir Tod series by Heather Brewer. This is mostly a teen series. The story is about a half vampire, half human teen boy named Vlad. At a young age he lost both of his parents, he grows up feeding on donated blood bags from the hospital. The tale tells of him going through his teen years and the difficulty of being hunted down by every vampire, human, and vampire slayer in the world. That's one against millions. He falls in love twice, and watches people die right in front of his eyes.
*The Night World series by L.J.Smith. each book contains three stories or tales that tell of each characters experience with a different world (so to speak) within the mortal world that contains shape-shifters, vampires, witches, werewolves, and more. And each contains its own story of romance, and love that was never meant to be. And death is all to known.
*The Thirst series by Christopher Pike. It's a series about a five thousand year old vampire girl who has the body and look of a nineteen year old. In the books are romance, blood, gore, passion, and dramatic twists. She goes by many names, has many lovers, traveled the world, gave birth twice, was both human and vampire, and killed many. This book is by far the most thrilling and i highly recommend it.
Here's a review of a vampire book that's a bit different, The Radleys by Matt Haig, about non-practicing vampires in suburbia!
I just want to respond to comments made that suggest vampire books are "ALL THE SAME." (They certainly are NOT.) Check out my book blog: http://VampireReview.blogspot.com and if you follow I will RTF!
Vampires come in all different shades of darkness. Thanks to Stephenie Meyer, now there are some who even sparkle.
