Hi Everyone!
This week is Banned Books Week! The American Library Association along with numerous other organizations promotes this week as a time to Celebrate your Freedom to Read! Anyone doing anything special on their blog? I'm involved in a Banned Books Challenge and will be highlighting banned and challenged books this week at Chick with Books. If you're doing anything special, I'd love to add the link over at my blog, just let me know! And please stop by to say hello and share how you feel about books that are challenged and banned!
I was just thinking of starting a topic about Banned Books Week. I'm doing a BBW takeover on my blog escape through the pages. Each day will have a different review of challenged books listed on the ALA website. I also have a contest running the entire week for a chance to win The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier
I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on your blog this week! I love discussing banned/challenged books.
I posted something at www.nybookcafe.com to promote banned books weeks, I also linked to Chick with Books. To celebrate our freedom, I asked anyone who has a review or favorite banned book, to let us know, and post a link in my comments section.
Hi Lexie!
Thanks for letting me know! I posted a link to your blog! Wow, what a week you're planning! And I love the American Flag of books!
BTW, am I missing something here... I don't see my discussion on the big board anymore... Is that because it's my discussion and it's just in "My Page"? That's why I started the other similar discussion because I didn't see this pop up!
We are also discussing some of my favorite banned books this week. At the end of the week we will be discussing ways we can get involved and how to protect our favorite books from being banned!
Friday: I discuss censorship and the importance of being able to "choose" what you read. I also mention Wal-Mar. I can't talk about censorship without mentioning Wal-Mart: Censorship, Wal-Mart & The Banned Book
Hi Suzanne...Just had to get my two cents posted despite being a week late. I wouldn't be at all surprised if my book, "IGNORANCE BY CHOICE" by Alex Steere (that's me), available at Amazon.com, winds up on such a list at some point especially with the political fear mongering that seems to be all the news every day these days. In any case, BBW is an amazing and very timely concept, and will be even moreso if Sarah Palin's going rogue brings her back into the political arena for another part time job, god forbid.
I've been tweeting and retweeting support. I've also been recommending banned books on Twitter, and supporting and discussing banned books with others. I have also mentioned it and opened discussions on a few message boards around the internet.
