Okay we all have our favorite genre and that book to which we compare everything that follows. I'm curious to try out a new genre, break out of my shell a bit. Here's how to help: Respond with you favorite genre and THE book that is your all time favorite.

Look forward to seeing your suggestions!

I really enjoy historical fiction. Some authors that I really like is Philippa Gregory, and Margaret George. Their books are based mostly on fact and then the fiction kinda fills in the parts that we don't know about 100%.

My favorite book of all times is The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and I know that isn't historical fiction but I LOVE that book. My other favorite is Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund.
Urban Fantasy/ Paranormal. I love these types of stories.
Who knew there were so many fantasy readers? Books are lik'a box of choco-lates, there are so many astounding flavors.
Heinlein's "Glory Road" was a memorable fantasy.
Heinlein's "Stranger In A Strange Land" was thoroughly thought provoking.
Brin's "Sundiver"
Brook's "Sword of Shannara"
Bujold's "Ethan of Athos"
Cook's "The Black Company"
Dalmas' "The Regiment"
Arrgghh! I can't do it, I can't identify a favorite. It is too much like telling one of my kids I like them best.
My favorite books for some reason have some sense of feminism, however I am not a feminist.

My favorite book of all time is The Awakening by Kate Chopin. I actually love all of her work!
As I bookmark those fabulous suggestions in my ever growing to-be-read shelf on GoodReads, I realize that some of these books fit in my comfort zone and some do not. In order to break out of that and try something different, I'm running a 2010 Genre Challenge. Come and check it out!

Happy Reading!

Fantasy and Sci-Fi all the way! My favorites are Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, and Malazan Book of the Fallen. I will argue to the death that these genre's are as good as any "literature" out there. :)
My favorite genre is Historical Fiction but working with middle school boys has brought a new appreciation of fantasy and science fiction. My favorite science fiction book is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
Fantasy of the epic kind. This is really a series for me. It's called A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The first book is A Game of Thrones. Actually, HBO just got done shooting the pilot for this series to become a regular show. It's awesome to say the least.

Love that book too!
While I love mysteries, the first book that made me realize that fiction could change the way I looked at the world was a science fiction masterpiece — STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND. Unlike other genres, science fiction (particularly the "speculative" sub-genre) is well suited for exploring ideas as well as telling a great story. Another favorite of mine is ENDER'S GAME. cover_thumbnail.png
Horror, or whatever Stephen King is considered and The Stand is my all time favorite.
I tried so hard with the Stand. I got 300 pages in and I just had to put it down. I thought the events were great, it was the characters that I just could not enjoy. Please convince me to keep reading since I really want to finish it. :)
