thanks for reply i just joined your group
I published through Createspace. It was fast, and easy and they printed a beautiful book. It didn't cost me anything at all, they just take a portion of the royalties. There is an option for expanded distribution for $39.95, but it's optional.
I recently finished one and used Createspace. They are a POD, they have a top-notch team and a user-friendly site. They are quick to respond and they can be reached by telephone easily, which I have not found to be the case with any other publisher so far. My book came in at 720 pages in a 6 X 9 size and cost to me is around $9.50 or so. To keep the price low for your customers though, you will have to keep your paperback out of the Createspace store, and you will have to keep it from both bookstores and libraries as well. In my case the minimum price of the book was around $23.60 or so distributed to everyone, and only around $16.50 if those above channels/outlets are eliminated from my distribution. I could not begin to imagine a novel selling for $23.50 no matter who wrote it, so I opted to cut the above mentioned outlets in order to keep the price as low as possible and maybe put a dollar into my pocket in both the domestic market, and the E U and UK.
You may have better luck and better pricing elsewhere. I have two friends who used other paperback publishers and I can find out who they used and what their cost ended up being, as well as a minimum order quota/discount if any. POD is always going to be a higher cost than a contract with a publisher for a large run of books, but it is just about the only practical option for an indy author.
