With my kids getting ready to return to school, I'm excited to find some new reading material...what is your favorite book and why?

My favorite is Mrs. Mike by Nancy and Benedict Freedman. I thought this was such a tender love story and Mike (main character) is the sort of man any woman could love and depend on. Mary is such an inspiring character with her quiet strength, good humor, and most importantly her willingness to help those in need. I discovered this book when I was 11 and I've read it nearly 10 times since then.

Have a great day!

My favorite most recent reads are two by the same author.

Her first book which was called Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin.  It is historical fiction and it based loosely on the real life Alice who was written as Alice in Wonderland.

Her second book by Mrs. Benjamin just came out and it is called The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb.  This is another historical fiction about Lavina Warren Bump who was know as Mrs. Tom Thumb during the civil war she traveled with P.T. Barnum. In fact her wedding to Mr. Thumb took over front page news even though the war was going on.  And people still have little Lilliputian mock wedding in tribute to them.

I review both of the books on my site if you want to know more

The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb

Alice I Have Been

I loved both books because of the historic elements and just how real the characters felt.  Of course they were based on real people so they were real but the author does a good job of just becoming that character and writing about them.
