Hey fellow bloggers. I recently had a problem with a couple authors and wasn't sure how to handle it. I've already done reviews for these particular authors. One author contacted me a total of 3 times. The first time I did a review and posted it in the prospective websites. He contacted me yet again for a review on the same book. I replied saying that I already did a review. Just yesterday he contacted me yet again for the same book. I also had another author do the same thing but only contacted me twice. I understand authors are trying to get their books out there and be noticed, but do they ever have a list of blogs that they've already contacted? The third time the author contacted me, I deleted the e-mail without reply. I feel bad that I didn't respond, but I was getting fed up. Should I have replied back yet again, or was it safe to just delete it? I'd be grateful for any insight anyone can give me.
I am new to 'reviewing' others work so i'm not sure if I have any helpful advice. I do think that it is ok that you didn't respond. Maybe the author contacted so many people they forgot who they contacted? I don't think it will hurt their feelings and they will probably feel silly when they realize you already reviewed their book. If you already replied once that is enough in my opinion.
Thanks for your thoughts! I really appreciate it :)
no problem :)
This does come across as very bad manners, but on the other hand authors are trying desperately to get their book reviewed, and will be writing a huge number of e-mails a day. I get so much mail that I'm happy ignoring duplicates, or those that don't submit in my desired format. It's sloppy on the authors' part, but I can forgive it, and move on. Don't worry, and learn not to reply. It's not rude, it's just good time management.
Oh, but if you're not going to reply to everything, make it clear on your website that you don't have time to respond to everything. Then people who've taken the time to visit your blog won't be offended.

I think you're fine. Authors can get mixed up just as much as the rest of us. I've had that happen a couple of times. I would respond on the first duplicate email. After that, it's up to you I think.
