What was the book that changed your life as a child?

Whether it was Harriet the Spy or The Phantom Tollbooth - a child's first memories of books can shape a lifetime of reading. What did it for you?

I would have to say it was good old Green Eggs and Ham. My mom got it from a weekly reader book club special and signed me up. It wasn't really weekly though. I did get two books monthly and that was the start of my love affair with reading. :)

My favorite child's story was Alexander and The Wind up Mouse.

Harry Potter, it was the book that got me interested in reading. I am still young, and I discovered it only two years ago ( I think), but my life has changed so much because of that book.

Any and all books by Enid Blyton. My parents gave me my first Blyton book Mr Pink Whistle Interferes, when I was 5 and I was hooked.

Mine was Charlotte's Web by EB White.

There are too many to list! But, the first book I recall returning to repeatedly (if you don't count the little-kid books, like Are You My Mother? and Rosalie the Bird Market Turtle) was A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. And, I do believe it changed the way I look at the world.

The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Also A Little Princess by the same author. But it's actually hard to pinpoint the books that really turned me on to reading. So many books made big impressions! Also the Anne of Green Gables series, and the Little House series...

I mentioned this one in a guest post once. It's a really old book called Beautiful Joe. It's about a dog who is mistreated by his family. He is later adopted by a family that truly loves and cares for him. It's such a sweet story and I'm such an animal lover that it's always stayed with me.

The whole Little House on the Prairie series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I so wanted to be a pioneer girl.Funnily enough I did end up working at a living history museum.

To Kill a Mockingbird I first read it when I was in the 5th grade. It made me more socially aware of the world around me. It also reconfirmed that I always have to do what I believe is right, even if those around me disagree. I could relate to almost every character in there - some way or another.

LOL, you'll laugh, but I'd have to say it was Bunnicula by James Howe. Not only is it one of the only books I read as a child that has stuck with me, but it's also the first book that got me hooked on a series and had me looking to read every book that came out, something I continue to do to this day!

I love Bunnicula!!! Not sure it was around when I was young, but my son and I read them when he was small. He was so disappointed when we came to the end of the series.
