What's the deal with Twitter?

I know it's been around for years but I've always avoided it. I guess I don't get it. I see that many Book Bloggers have joined up and seem to love it. What am I missing? Or should I stay away?

I've been holding out on Twitter too but may do it this year. At least I'm thinking about it which means I'm closer to actually doing it. lol

It definitely needs to be managed as it can be quite addictive, especially if you do not work in an office environment and are missing the 'normal' social interactions that happen within office environments. It is however, much easier to use as a business tool than Facebook. I think for people who work with words - publishing, research, writing, selling etc. it is a fantastic medium. It is much easier to reach an audience on Twitter (2 weeks and 100 people), however, is that audience really going to be beneficial to my product ? It is going to take quite a while before I manage to get into my geographic Twitter stream and hopefully get more people through my doors. But in the mean time, I get to hear what other book people are up to and sometimes, bloggers and publishers give away free books on Twitter! Extra bonus.

I'm not on it, yet. But it has got to be a heck of an information medium. The Texas Department of Public Safety went to it. One of our sister newspapers went to it for breaking news. My concern would be the amount of time required to keep it current.

I joined because I had a number of regular readers of my book blog request that I join. I eventually did and it's been fun to get updates from favorite writers throughout the day. The response have been overwhelmingly positive.

I'm on Twitter @BrooksSigler, if anyone wants to tweet at me. I actually like it better than Facebook these days, especially since Facebook changed its format. Not sure if I'll use Twitter forever, but I'm exploring it.

I joined about a month back and just entered urls because I didn't know what I was supposed to do but yesterday I tweeted "I cannot for the life of me work out what to do with this thing" and promptly got a friend request who also directed me on how to use twitter which was excellent.Also I have set up with twitterfeed so my blog posts get fed directly.I am also going to post on random things as well.But the wonderful thing is how easily everyone follows you as soon as you follow them so the chances of your blogfeed getting picked up and read is so much better.Because really at this stage the highlight of my day is seeing how many people visited my blog and I wait up until midnight so I can check the day's traffic.So my advice is join.They seem to be a nice bunch of people.

I joined Twitter and played with it for a while but I find it so time consuming. I had to make sure I did not get Tweets from one twitter to another twitter just because I happened to know both of them. If people post just important things I can keep up but when someone posts a tweet about how they are eating buttered bread and jam for the third time I pretty much lose interest. I just don't care about people's every seconds of the day. When people are choosier, I am more interested. That is just my opinion.

I have to update this. I downloaded TweetDeck and now I am really enjoying using Twitter. I find TweetDeck is a lot easier to use and easier to keep track of what I have missed.

Twitter was hacked today so if you do twitter, check your profiles & change your passwords...I had to delete about 200 vulgar and obscene posts off mine today.
