Hi All,
I wanted to address readers and fellow authors. As a writer, I know that writing sex scenes can be the hardest thing to do. You try your best not to make them awkward, the characters need good chemistry and you don't want to make the scene too cheap and cheesy. Obviously judging from some of the books I've read, a lot of authors have this problem, LOL!
One time I read a book where the love scenes were SO BAD that I laughed each time the couple made love. It was extremely funny. I can't remember the book or author but the story took place on a farm. The lady's husband died and she took in a drifter. (Yeah I know what you're thinking, cliche' city)!
First off the set up was bad because the woman didn't trust him at first but let him stay with her if he worked on her farm. BUT, she started to have sex with this man (who she hardly knew) about two weeks later. And it was one of the worst sex scenes I've ever read! It was horrible but extremely funny. Did I throw out the book? No. The scenes were so darn funny and ridiculous that I kept reading just to get to the sex scenes. The plot sucked so I guess she'd stuck in so much sex to take readers' minds off the lame story. I guess to the author, bad sex is better than no sex. I am not sure about that one myself, LOL! Some books don't need sex and this was one of them! The author was middle aged yet wrote like she didn't know a darn thing about sex or expressing the emotions and capturing the feelings of it. Her scenes were not only fake sounding but amatuerish and awful! But like I said, hilarious too!
My question is, do cheesy or bad written sex/love scenes make you give up on a book? Fellow authors do you go out your way to make sure your sex scenes are realistic? Readers, does a bad sex scene turn you off or make you laugh?
Can't wait to read these responses! LOL!
