I have received a couple of ARCs on titles that were delayed (I thought I was requesting actual copies, but then they appeared and are ARCs). I was wondering what is the proper time to post the review? My thinking is that if something won't be released until March, should I wait to post the review until people are able to order it or check it out from their library?

I've had this question, too, and it's great to read so many responses. I've done a bunch of ARC reviews, some as much as seven, eight months in advance. I think if the publishers want you to wait, they'll say something. I know a note came with a book I got four months early, requesting that the review not be posted til around the release date. But when there's no request like that, I figure, why not write it now, and re-post the reviews as the release date comes around? That way you get to do both :)
oops! what are ARCs?

Advance Reader Copy.
These are books bound up so reviewers will be able to read them and write a review before the book comes out and also to generate a buzz.

These are not the final copies. I've gotten ARCs with spelling errors, mistakes, different covers, etc. basically that means that you should not quote from them.

Thanks everybody. I'm a self-published author that is why i don't know the lingua franca that publishers use. I sunk all my savings into the publishing of my book Sweetness The Novel. I have no regrets. I believed in the project. I was ecstatic when i held the actual book in my hand. There'll always be two authors, those picked up by traditional publishers and those self-published like myself. Thanks for the education on what is called what in the publishing industry.

My understanding is that most publishers would like you to post on community sites like GoodReads and Library Thing in advance, and then on consumer sites like Amazon with a week before or 2 weeks after publication.
The answer varies greatly as I explain in this article, "A Simple Question, Not So Easily Answered" -

I've asked a few publishers reps about this same question--they like bloggers to post the reviews within the month before the book comes out or the month after. They prefer that bloggers not post the reviews really early, even though sometimes the ARCS area available months in advance.
2-4 weeks before the publication date.
I think the best thing to do is ask the publisher or author who sent you the ARC when they would like you to post your review. If they don't specify then I usually post it 2 weeks before it comes it to get people excited about going out and buying the book. If you post too early then it would be easily forgotten by your blog readers.

Hope this helps :)

I usually post in this time frame: 2 weeks before to 2 weeks post the publication date.
