When your favorite character gets killed off...

I know I can't be the only one who gets emotionally attached to the characters in the books I read. Don't you absolutely hate it when you are in the middle of a book (or even worse, a series of books) and one of your favorite characters bites the dust? What was the last book you read that the death of one of the characters was traumatic for you?

Hi Patricia! I know what you mean...I just read Marked by Passion by Kate Perry and I really liked the heroine's friend/ex and I was secretly hoping she'd write a book starring him...but then he died. Brutally. I was seriously bummed.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I thought I had it rough when Sirius died in Order of the Phoenix. Dumbledore dying in Half-Blood Prince was heartbreaking. But having *SPOILER* (JIC)

Mad-Eye,Dobby Fred, Tonks,Lupin and a redeemed Snape, plus others I can't remember all die by the end of DH, made me sob!
I am reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward, and one of the main supporting characters was killed off. Brutally, and seemingly to no benefit to the story-line. I'm only on book 4 now, though. So maybe it will start to make sense eventually. It realy sucked though. She seemed so integral to the plot, and her death so senseless. Grrr. (LOL)
A couple of years ago I read Marian keyes "Anybody Out There". I was absolutely loving the book and the characters when the character I think was called "Aiden" (don't quote me!) died. I was so gutted I cried. Actually, even after I'd finished the book, I still kept thinking about it. I loved the book, and it could never have been written had he not died, but I just never saw it coming. Occasionally I still think about how that felt now when I'm writing about my own characters. It's heartbreaking.
