Where is your favorite place to write? Is there a certain "writer's spot" you like to go for inspiration>
My favorite place to write is at night sitting on my bed with the music of William Joseph playing in the background. For those who may not know, He is this incredible pianist. If I'm trying to work out the wording of a passage, I will climb in the whirlpool. Some of my best ideas come to me when Im surrounding my pulsating water.
Okay, now it's your turn! :)

I have an idea of where I would like to write, but at this point it's just a fantasy. I would love to have an office in a rustic English cottage, with large windows overlooking a lush garden or the sea. Of course, it would be sound-proof to block out the incessant demands of my lovely children. LOL As of now, I write at the dining room table. Sigh!

Hi Irina
I smiled as I read your message.. I would love to have a real space to house all my writing "stuff" Right now, I have a shelf in the bedroom. Sigh. So here I sit in the dark on my bed as I wrote this. I dont have the sound of children to deal with just the annoying sound of the incessant football coverage hubby loves to watch LOL!

Ideally my favourite place to write would somewhat resemble Irina's. Mine would be by the window somewhere, possibly in England, Scotland, Nova Scotia... (a really green place by the water). That way I could look out my window and lose myself in the goreous landscape. As it is, I write mainly in bed or at my desk.

Right now I write in my kitchen, so if I can't have Irina's fantasy, then a well insulated shed way down at the bottom of my garden will do. It has to be insulated though, winters in Yorkshire are pretty cold... come to think of it the summers aren't great either. So heating is a must, and a kettle, I can't write without a huge cup of tea on hand!
Permalink Reply by Stephen Lawrence Brayton on July 27, 2012 at 9:24am I usually write at work. I work the graveyard shift and it's usually quiet for hours. A little NPR classical and I'm set.
I am a mother of 4 so ANYWHERE QUIET! Is the answer for me. I have written in the lobby at the movie theater, at the park while the kids play, at the library while the kids look for books, and home on my laptop.
I write wherever the ideas flow :)

Honestly, this question has two parts for me. Really with my Ipod I can write anywhere. As long as I can turn on the tunes and block out the choas I can do well. I mostly work in my "office" I use that term loosely, as I can shut the door and add that extra barrier. Really though, my best ideas come to me in the bath. I know crazy huh. With four kids there is little time to relax. When I sit back and take those moments to relax, I think, and when I think I begin to see whole new possibilities. Either way, I have to have my music. The music varies depending on the story and the need, but I need the music in the back of mind to see it like a movie playing out before me.

J.C.,
First of all, the love the idea of being in a whirlpool to get ideas. I get some pretty cool ideas when I am either in my car or in the shower (I know, go figure, right?). However, most of the time, I write on my bed with a candle burning and a glass of green tea sitting next to me. At times, I go to the library and write there too. Something to do with being surrounding by other artists gives me inspiration to write.
Great question and conversation starter!

Thanks Teresa. I'm fascinated by all the responses I've gotten to my question. We had the whirlpool put in after our bathroom fell apart two years ago. And I am so happy to hear that other people think creatively in the shower. I thought I was the only one who did that. :) I do most of my writing in the dark with just the light of the computer and my music playing.

I write anywhere I can. My ideal place would be a nice office suite in my home overlooking the ocean on a semi-cloudy day with a flat dark blue sea andthe sound of the wind at the window.
Since I'm a struggling writer just trying to make rent from month to month, I usually throw down anywhere I can - the kitchen table, the bedroom, even at restaurants.
