I'm assuming that most of us blog because we enjoy reading, putting words together and expressing our opinions. But what prompted you to start blogging?

For me it was the number of friends I had asking me for book recommends. I got tired of repeating myself and decided to put it online.

I have two blogs, one I do because its therapeutic to just write whatever I want. My review blog, I do because it's fun, and if we're being totally honest here, because I'm broke and it's a good way to get some nice stuff. I'm also a very opinionated person, and I love having my own space to share my opinions on various things.
Of course I love to read. The idea of blogging came to me many years back when I was trying to create my own website. Ended up instead creating a few blogs that i know right on. My book blog was my idea of keeping track of what I've read.
I like keeping track of what I read and instead of just liking the book or not I actually have to come up with a review that someone will read.  This makes me really think about what I read and how I felt about it.  Its fun to get comments about what others think and I love getting asked to read and review a book.  I have another blog just of my family and I enjoy doing that one for my faraway family.  Its fun to look back on both.
Great answers!

I started my first blog on the recommendation of a friend-- I didn't read blogs or know anything about them but quickly became enamoured. Blogging is such an amazing creative outlet. I love connecting with like-minded people around the world-- it is like having tons of penpals!

My first blog is my 'everything else' blog-- it started as a way to keep in touch with distant family/friends but it has grown beyond only that now.

I started my bookish blog due to inspiration from an old note from 1951 that I found written on the inside cover of an old book urging anyone who read the book to sign it. I couldn't get the note out of my mind and I really needed a place to talk books.

I love that book story! I'm very tempted to do the same thing with one of my books. In fact it would make a great book idea to write about all the people that signed it and how the book affected their lives.

Simple answer: coz I love to blog!:) It is so much fun and learning at the same time, its great if you want to share ur views with the world sitting at home!:)

During college I was constantly reading and analyzing texts (English Lit and Philosophy require tons of analysis) and once I graduated I was worried that I would lose my ability to look beyond the surface of a book if I didn't continue to actively read and write. So, I started blogging. True, in an effort to retain readers I've found myself having to limit the amount of detailed analysis that I might want to get into, but regardless of what I actually publish in the post the process allows me to continue to utilize my critical thinking skills and keep up with my abilities to delve into a book.
I started my blog the end of March, thinking of it as a place to talk about the "intersections" of books and people in day-to-day life. (I haven't intended to use it as a space to do book reviews, although I'm sure there will be some of those because that's all part of this arena called "books.") The driving force behind my starting a blog was the knowledge that if I was serious about becoming a professional writer/author, I'd better get serious about putting myself into the discussion mix that surrounds the profession. It's fascinating to me how my former and lifelong tendencies to keep to myself are shifting as I become more at ease in my new career, which I look at now as not only writing but also blogging. I may be slow to start and I may be the least coordinated newbie, but I'm sure enjoying being in the game. I wish I'd started writing and blogging years ago!
Enjoying being in the game is what it's all about!
Had to chuckle. I'm not sure what you mean about 'advised' but in my house that would mean the kids were trying to shut me up but still let me feel like I was talking to them.

I'm working on a children's book website.  The blog started as a way to gain name recognition.  In the last few months, I've had a great time meeting and interacting with other bloggers.  The blog has helped me hone my goals for my website.
