Permalink Reply by Kathy Maxwell on March 22, 2011 at 11:16pm I love to read because it provides me with entertainment, enlightenment, and information. I prefer: mysteries for the suspense and the puzzle; historical novels are an enjoyable way to learn history; fantasies as an escape into an alternate reality; Victorian classics because I love the age in which they were written; memoirs to learn about other people's lives and accomplishments; Christian romance because I don't have to worry about objectionable material; and survival stories because they teach so much about the human spirit. Reading preference are totally subjective! People's reading choices are as varied as their personalities.
Please share your reading style!!!

Permalink Reply by RYCJ on March 23, 2011 at 1:53am I read because I want to know.
- how the soldier spent two tours at war
- how the one SEAL made it home
- how the Iranian girl adjusted moving to America
- how the woman got over her sexual insecurities
- & what that other woman did to figure out why men cheat;-)
I prefer reading adult stories because adult themes are on my reading level. Biographies, memoirs, and non-fiction are still my favorites because they are the REAL deal. Children's and YA are fun to unwind with... when I feel like drifting. Contemporary romance, to include erotica can be another escape. Must be careful here... either the story must have a VERY unusual slant (hold the tears however, I like to do my own crying) OR be of a humorous sort... such as Chic-lit in this case, it works well with my style.

Permalink Reply by RYCJ on March 23, 2011 at 11:40am Absoloutely. It's so funny too, because often I'm in such a rush to move on to the next thing that I was just about to type in a line many of us use to the point it now has no meaning, and that was I like a good story, or book.
As you can see, good, or literature, or classic, or funny, or too much sex, dry, dull, or give any it any term you desire and all those words mean nothing until you open the book and start reading the text.

Permalink Reply by Shawn Lamb on March 24, 2011 at 7:12am I read to entertain myself. Quite simply it brings me joy! I am a mother of 4 kids 8 and under and this is something I can do just for me. Selfish right? well, it isn't always just me, I do blog with my 8 yr old! lol!
I read YA, fantasy, junior fiction, paranormal, historical fiction, and lately- just whatever people have been throwing at me!

I use to like Historical Fiction, but was getting frustrated with modern sensibilities creeping into the past. I want a true picture of how it was. Mainly I believe reading preference is subjective.

Permalink Reply by Elizabeth Joseph on March 25, 2011 at 1:26am I feel a good book is the best way to unwind you at the end of a tiring day...also imagine the places that I can visit when I read books...and also the past and future I can travel to when I read books... All these experiences are not achievable easily in any other kind of entertainment..
Then I believe that reading books expand your thinking, understand other people and life itself...
But the best reason is of course entertainment since I find it very hard to concentrate on technical books and non-fiction :P
I read all kind of books - historical, non-fiction, children's, general fiction. I have not explored the fantasy and vampire stories yet...still a bit reluctant to venture into these two genres..but did read harry potter
