To My Grandchildren,
We never know when our last day will arrive. We are on a trip with no known destination. There are many religions, soothsayers and wise old men who will tell you to follow them, they know the way and you are doomed if you don't. Turn from that advent and find your own way, believe in what you can find for yourself and know this, the man or woman who tells you he/she knows what God looks like, what God is like and how God behaves, hasn't the slightest idea about the one and only universal God.

In modern times, we have ascribed human qualities to our Universal Spirit and given that Deity an identity that is so far from the truth that we have become lost in our desire to make a God of our own choosing. Religions compete for us to follow, they knock on your door, send you pamphlets and argue the historical documents to prove they are right and you are wrong. As a human, we are not to know the total aspects of life, including the afterlife. To make this a fair contest for all, the answers are withheld and the trials many. Every single one of us has unlimited choices to make, some good and some bad, but they belong to us and after each event, we move to one square or another, but we are definitely changed by what we do.

This growth and development is taking us somewhere, that is for sure. It is important that you follow your own heart and listen to your own mind and be your own person. That is not to say, we can all do that, but at least we can try. There is nothing I say here that says you should not belong to an organized faith, but it should be one from your heart and not you mind. There is nothing here that says you shouldn't listen to other people, for that is how we learn, but you must make your own choices from the information you are given.

Things I believe:
Our Universal God is neither a man or a woman, those qualities, are earthly bound and not heavenly useful. Neither will we be, one or the other, for what is the fairness, or need, in that?

Pain and suffering belong to this earthly life and even though we reap, what we sow, we won't be cast into a burning fireplace to make justice of our existence. What kind of loving parent would do that?

We have more beauty and wonderment in the next life than we can imagine and it is good. (and the one after that)

We cannot reason with or about a God that is so infinite, so eternal that our small human minds can't even compete with the true answers. Again, I have to add, we are not meant to.

I am no closer to the truth than your next door neighbor, none of us can know, it is up to you and you alone. That is judgement.

There is no sin in dying, it is a human quality, a necessity of our planned trip and if my parents could do it, I am sure I will be able to to it too.

One final note, as I have carried with me the words and wisdom of my wonderful and Christian grandmother who is still at my side each and everyday, I will do all I can after I leave here, to help you along your way.

With all my Love Grandpa

PS, Don't forget to say your prayers tonight and tell your loved ones that you love them with all your heart!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this!
I don't know if you meant me or not, hopefully you were. If so I'd be honored.

'With one day to live, who would I write a letter to'?

I would write a letter to God. I would say, 'Dear God', If there is anything that is not right in me, pluck it out and make me over. Save my soul from the burning gates of hell. Forgive me for all the sins that I have and will sin. Thank you for all of the things that you've done and going to do for me the remainder of the short time that you're allowing me to be here on your precious earth. Touch the hearts, minds, body and souls of my whole family, from the smallest to the largest, from the youngest to the oldest. Then touch every one else in the whole world, and give them all what they need to serve you, to do your will to the fullest, so that my family, and they will meet up at the same place, in 'Heaven'. Dear God I pray that when the second has arrived, and my time has come to an end, I pray that I will hear you say, 'My good and faithful servant, well done'.
