Permalink Reply by Sandra Stiles on May 14, 2011 at 8:49am This is the blurb on the back of my new book Steps to Courage. I'm a teacher. I sat in my classroom with my students watching the events of 9/11 unfold on the classroom TV. While trying to reassure them that everything would be okay, one of them asked me if there were kids in the towers. That is where the idea for this story took root. The book is temporarily unavailable on Amazon as we have changed the cover. It will be back up within 2 weeks.
This is the first in what I hope to be a long career in writing. I use lessons I teach in my classes, history, books I read and review to inspire me.
Trina Lacy knew all about survival. Since her accident, she has been determined never to feel like a victim, but live life as a survivor. Her classmate, Mark Jacobs did not think he deserved to be a survivor. Plagued by guilt for his role in his parent's death, he felt life was not so great. Trina's ex-boyfriend Lucas James felt guilty for the accident he caused that left his former girlfriend scarred.
When Trina proposes a fundraiser to be held at Windows on the World for their community service project, Lucas and Mark jump at the chance to help. Each of them has their own reasons. ONce in the Towers, they decide to divide and conquer. They had not expected someone to fly planes into the Towers. They never expected to face escaping the burning towers with all the odds stacked against them. Now the fears they have been carrying with them must be dealt with as they take steps to get out. The question is, will they survive the events of 9/11?
This is just the beginning of what I hope to become a long career in writing. I'd like feedback on the premise.

Permalink Reply by Sandra Stiles on May 14, 2011 at 1:01pm Thank you. I'm excited about it. Several of my students have read it. The funny thing is, most of them wouldn't pick a book up this year and they devoured my book.
Sounds like an emotional adventure! Glad its inspiring your students to read! Sometimes all it takes to catch the reading bug is one great book!

My book is titled Being Abigail and is based on the characters from my blog. It's something that I wrote and self-published just for fun. It is chick-lit/black comedy and tells the story of Abigail Carter a highly strung redhead, who, after a suicide attempt goes awry goes about trying to rebuild her life - often with hilarious results. You can find out more about it here - or just read the blog and have a few laughs.

I've just released Setup On Front Street, a noir tale from the shadows of Key West. Here's a brief description:
Key West, 1991. Don Roy Doyle is back in town. Tough and quick-witted, he's fresh out of prison, where he served three years for a diamond swindle. Now he's back to collect his share of the proceeds, about $200,000, but the money has vanished.
A local family dynasty which has controlled the island's politics for generations, a cop with a grudge, the FBI, and the Russian mob all have a stake in the action. They're convinced Cuba is on the verge of "opening up", and they all want Doyle gone.
In this tightly-knit town, who can be trusted? And how long can Doyle stay alive?
SETUP ON FRONT STREET takes you inside the world of Key West noir, a world tucked way back in the shadows, where the tourists never go.
The ebook is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, while the paperback is available on Amazon and CreateSpace.

I am as of yet, sort of an unpublished fantasy author. I say sort of because I do have a book published with Publish America. For those who have gone the route of PA, I hope it worked well for you. For me, it didn't work out as I had several mistakes and felt slightly scammed by them. But mostly my fault as I had not done my research, so let that be a lesson to you! Research!!!
Okay, so what I am working on at the moment are two books, both are fantasy and both are written off of a world I have spent over ten years creating:
Legend of the Black Rose ~ Well, I still don't have much of a synopsis for this one. But the bare basics of this story is Black Rose fights off an Elemental Demon. Black Rose is the right hand of the Goddess of Justice. When wrongs need to be righted, Black Rose is the one who emerges from the mist to bring justice for those who are unable to to claim it for themselves.
My second book, Crowning Absolution does have a synopsis ~ Kayta Ni'adzul has been the protector of her kingdom for only a few short years. Now she will become the one to unite her kingdom with their enemy. But change brings fear and the only way to stop these changes is to take action. Kayta soon finds herself in strange company, with no memory of who she is or of the life she once lead.
Alabassin Li'endrin is the sole heir to the throne. Going against generations of tyrannical rule, he intends to enter into a marriage that would end an Ages old war. His father has other plans for his son's reign. When Alabassin's intended bride suddenly disappears, he has a difficult choice to make. Go to war or find his betrothed, no matter the cost.
So there you have it. I have a paranormal book sitting on the sidelines at the moment. I have several short stories of different genres. I have a portfolio on Writing.com under the pen name Caledonia Lass. I currently have a short story of 900 words titled "Cherished" that won the contest of the day, the Writer's Cramp. You can also find me at www.caledonialass.blogspot.com. I look forward to meeting more of you!
Permalink Reply by Kathy Maxwell on May 25, 2011 at 11:26pm I have written an ebook, A SPY AT HOME, that is published and available on Amazon. Here is a brief blurb of this contemporary drama:
When Dad becomes the lone caregiver for a dependent adult son, Dad has to answer the terrifying question: What happens if I die first? A retired CIA operative comes to believe he wasted his professional life not only promoting questionable American policies, but missing life with his family. After his wife dies in a tragic accident, he must learn all that she knew about caring for their mentally retarded son. After a life of planning for contingencies, the former spy must deal with the possibility that he may die before his son. Who will care for the son when the dad spent a life out of the country and now has no one to lean on?
I have an adult daughter with Down syndrome, and I have always loved spy novels. These two topics seemed to mesh perfectly for me in writing this book. Thanks for your interest. The Amazon link to my ebook is as follows:

Joe Rinaldo - my web site is www. josephmrinaldo.com and my blog site is http://wwwjosephmrinaldocom.blogspot.com.

This sounds really good, Joseph. As soon as I am able, I will purchase it. Is it only available on Kindle or can you buy it for the Nook or on Smashwords? As soon as I read it, I'll do a review and let you know when it is up. :D
Mel
Thanks, Mel. It can be purchased for Kindle or any other device that can be used as an ereader; I have it on B&N, also, so it can be purchased for Nook. I'd love to read your thoughts. Thanks!
Joe
