Our Beck Valley Books Review of My Dream Man by Marie Solka 'The warmth of the characters shine through'.....

"Cupid's arrow strikes in the most unexpected places and for Samantha this surprisingly happened on her routine nursing appointment at a client's home. The last thing she expected was to fall in love for a client's son, who is a scientist, so not her usual type but leaves her sensationally hot and wanting more but will he feel the same way?

The warmth of the characters shine through which is always the case with the author, both as Marie Solka and Kim Cano, you will find yourself bonding to them really quickly. She seems to bring an enjoyable tale to life, inviting you to turn page after page to see what will happen next. There are so many words to describe this book, warming, soft, gentle, mellow, its a nice all round feel good read that leaves you feeling happy to have read it and leaving you with a happy glow.

This is now the third book I've read from the author and I've got to say I'm becoming hooked, each story is so different, especially this one as her first romance, yet they are so pleasant to read. An easy book to escape into and to be carried along their journey."

Our Beck Valley Books Review of ping: The Rescue of Eden by Stuart Avery Gold

"A very awe inspiring book even though it is only 84 pages long. This is the only book I have read in the series but will definitely look out for the others andread them.

The clever use of using Ping the frog to notice and act on the changes that happen around his pond is appealing to any reader. As other animals arrive he asks them while on their travels if they have spotted any differences, especially his long time friend Kamo, the duck, and together form an alliance to put it back as it should be.

The message from the book is a simple one, Mother Nature has ruled and governed the earth well before man and she knows how to solve the problems without any intervention. On the other side of the coin is that someone will do what they think is right for themselves without thinking about the consequences of their actions on others.

A book that everyone should read and it might change their views and help create a better world for everyone. The language and simple explanations make an excellent read and I think it should be introduced to the school curriculum and if the other books are as good as this one, they should be too. The book will cause a lot of debate regarding the best way forward for the planet and nature over money? Please read this book!"

An enjoyable and compelling archaeological adventure

By D. Eadsforthon September 16, 2014

‘Clonmac’s Bridge’ is Jeffrey Perren’s best novel to date. (I had intended to take it to read on holiday but, after sampling the first few pages, just kept on reading.) The story starts placidly enough with two maverick archaeologists pushed together on a quest to locate and excavate a medieval bridge that used to span the River Shannon in Ireland.

However, a veritable shower of adverse forces is unleashed on the project. The lead archaeologist, Griffin, is on a constant, and seemingly futile, search for funding, while his colleague, Mari, the daughter of a Peruvian millionaire of many shady connections, tries to help while juggling a delicate balance between her father and her playboy ex. The central question is: why should so many people be motivated to prevent them from finding the bridge? Why should one of the team be murdered at the outset of the project? Between the Machiavellian manoeuvres of: the Church, a large corporation, academia, the press, and Mari’s father – all of which have their own reasons for wanting the project to fail – an answer must be found. Flashbacks to the time of the building of the bridge provide an additional and exciting flavour.

Jeffrey Perren’s narrative is light, fast, and amusing, and his revealing of the complex, and ingenious, thoughts and deeds of each of his main characters is a positive delight, with a sparky dialogue featuring throughout. The solution, when it comes, reveals all in a most satisfactory manner.

Our Beck Valley Books review of Eclair Goes to Stella's by Michelle Weidenbenner 'A fun easy to read book that I really enjoyed'......

"Eclair is a cute lovable seven year old who you cannot fail to smile and laugh along with at some of the things she thinks or says and even misunderstands, just like a typical seven year old. She will also make you feel a little sad too but not for long as you soon start smiling again.

Eclair and her sister Meggie face a tough time as their mom has to go away because she is poorly so they have to go and live with her Grandma Stella for a while, until her dad can find another job. It's the important issues Eclair worries about like leaving behind her BFF (best friend forever) which is her first thought!

Yet with two simple words, horse and farm, as dad tells her about Grandma Stella's farm Magical Meadows, things just seem that little bit brighter. Stella has to be brave for now and learn to trust her Grandma and get used to her new surroundings living on the farm, you can feel her insecurities and sadness but her happiness shines through. Animals make the greatest friends and two lost souls, Eclair and rescued horse Lightning, help each other through their new adventure in life together.

I like how the author has also included a few little animal facts within the story itself that children can pick up without even thinking about it and the sketches in each small chapter are so much fun. The author treats you to a glimpse of the next book too, it looks like Lightning gets a new friend and maybe one for Eclair too.

A fun easy to read book that I really enjoyed , maybe that's because I'm a big kid at heart."
