Her Fondest Christmas Memory...
& Her Top 3 things to do at Christmas...

http://beckvalleybooks.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/christmas-advent-trou...

At 35-years-old, Cole Stanton is burned out. His high-paced, uber-successful career has left him yearning to start over. He finds Indigo Island, buys a restaurant and settles into an uncomplicated life. But Christmas is a mess. He has over-committed the small restaurant’s resources again, and is over his head. He finds himself longing for everything he has left behind, until a chance encounter with gorgeous Lily offers a spark of salvation to his business and, perhaps his life.

Beautiful pastry chef Lily Edmonds is thirty years old and heartbroken. It’s just before Christmas and she’s just been dumped by via telephone by her fiancee. Her best friend Avery Putnam invites her to Indigo Island, hoping to add joy back into Lily’s life. A chance encounter with the sexy owner of a local restaurant makes Lily feel an attraction she thought she’d never feel again, and offers her a business challenge to keep her mind focused on something other than her broken heart.

Cole Stanton and Lily Edmonds are both starting over. Will the joy of the holiday season bring them together or will the troubles with Christmas push them apart?

Our Beck Valley Books review of The Vineyard by Michael Hurley 'A story of faith, real friendship and mystery after mystery that keeps you reading on to find out more.'

"The Vineyard grabbed my attention as soon as I started reading and the first part of the book is still my favorite part of the story. Three college friends, Charlotte, Dory and Turner reunite at Dory's place in The Vineyard ten years after seeing other. Each with their own personal soul searching story that interlinks making the story flow together, keeping you well and truly intrigued, grasping you to read on.

As I mentioned I was drawn to one particular character in the story, Charlotte, who's sadness and despair weighed far too heavy for her that she could no longer carry on. What happens next will have your undivided attention and gives you the understanding of the true face of suicide, the author I felt did an amazing job with this.

The story is a lot more than the girls reunion, we also have an elusive spiritual figure known by locals as 'The Fisherman', to the girls as 'Enoch', who seems to have miraculous gifts of kindness and healing. This innocent, beautiful soul wants peace and beauty in the world and for the people in it and he will help the girls in their time of need in ways they certainly would not expect. Yet not everyone sees The Fisherman in good light.

There is some sexual content in the story so I would recommend this for adults.

A story of faith, real friendship and mystery after mystery that keeps you reading on to find out more."

Book Review - Seaside Hearts by Melissa Foster 'As usual this is a fun book that I read really quickly--I had to know how it was going to turn out!! I'

This one had me a bit worried that the guy and the girl might not make it! From the first glance they were head over heels about each other. I mean really--she's a shy musician who really hasn't dated much and he has big issues of his own-even so-instant chemistry. She is computer illiterate (but plays the cello in the Boston Symphony Orchestra)-He is a computer geek extraordinaire who has built up a company to rival Google. They meet when she throws her cell phone off the balcony in frustration (I can relate totally) and clocks hims in the head by accident! Plug in an over protection, manipulative and nasty friend of Jamie and you have got problems-big problems!! Luckily the Seaside girls have taken Jessica as one of their own and are teaching her what life and friendship is all about. As usual this is a fun book that I read really quickly--I had to know how it was going to turn out!! I really did get worried there for a while.

Read more about Seaside Sunsets by Melissa Foster over at Miki's Hopehttp://www.mikishope.com/2014/12/e-books-5-ww-game-of-love-and-take...

Jessica Ayers has lived a sheltered life with little more than cello lessons and practices taking up her day. Now a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, she escapes the prim and proper symphony to vacation in the Seaside community in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, and determine if she is living life to the fullest or missing it altogether.

For the first time since developing the second largest search engine in the world, billionaire Jamie Reed is taking the summer off. He plans to work from the Cape and spend time with his elderly grandmother—and falling in love is not in his plans.

From the moment Jamie and Jessica meet, the attraction is white-hot. Once-overly-focused Jamie can think of little else than sensual, smart, and alluring Jessica, and Jessica discovers a side of herself she never knew existed. But when Jamie’s business encounters trouble and his attorney and best friend intervenes, he proves that the blond beauty is too distracting for Jamie. To make matters worse, it appears that Jessica might not be who she says she is, turning Jamie’s life—and his heart—upside down. In a world where personal information is always one click away, Jamie must decide if he should trust his heart or watch the woman he loves walk away.

FIRST-PLACE WINNER in the KINDLE BOOK PROMOS
GOLD Medal WINNER in the 2014 READERS' FAVORITE
INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
BRONZE Medal Winner in Dan Poytner's Global eBook Awards in Multi-Cultural LIterature

CAPTIVATING!
SCATTERED LINKS takes you down the street of nearly any Eastern European town, arm-in-arm with the orphaned. Michelle has captured the beauty and horror millions of children live everyday. The attention to detail is impressive. Having lived in a post-Soviet country for a time, visiting orphaned children, this fictional account rings with truth, from the heart-wrenching pain of abandonment to the realization of self-worth, and the love family and faith brings. Thank you for such an uplifting book, appropriate for the young reader, as well as adult. May your heart be encouraged, as mine was.

Kim de Blecourt, speaker and award-winning author of "Until We All Come Home: A Harrowing Journey, a Mother's Courage, a Race to Freedom"

“Scattered Links is a novel that pulls its characters from the gutters and, in the end, celebrates the tenacity of the human spirit.” A reviewer comment.

Thirteen-year-old Oksana lives on the streets of Russia with her pregnant mama and abusive aunt—both prostitutes. When Mama swells into labor, Oksana makes a decision to save herself from abandonment, a decision that torments her forever. But her plan fails when her aunt dumps her in an orphanage before she has the chance to say goodbye to her mama or tell her the secret that haunts her.

Scattered Links is a story of family and the consequences that come from never learning how to love. It’s a story of a girl’s inability to bond with her adopted family and the frustrations that follow.

How can a child understand the mechanics of forming a healthy relationship when she never had a mother who answered her cries, held her when she was frightened, fed her when she was hungry, or loved her unconditionally?

Only when the child meets a rescued abused horse, and recognizes the pain in his eyes, does she begin to trust again.

The one that broke her heart.
The one that got away.

Christmas Advent - Whirlpool by Eileen Enwright Hodgetts

Read the Christmas Advent Post here...

Find out Eileen's Christmas Wishes...
Her Fondest Christmas Memory...
& Her Top 3 Games to play at Christmas

http://beckvalleybooks.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/christmas-advent-whir...

Inspired by true stories of the Falls, Whirlpool is a romance, an adventure, and the closest that most of us will ever come to taking the fateful plunge over the Falls.

Whirlpool by Eileen Enwright Hodgetts

The year is 1923 and the jazz age is in full swing. Evangeline Murray, a young widow from Ohio, is recruited by the Women’s Freedom Movement to represent the spirit of modern womanhood by going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Evangeline eagerly embraces her opportunity to achieve fame and fortune, until she sees the power of the River and begins to understand the risk she is taking. Joshua McClaren, an enigmatic battle-scarred veteran of World War I, and the best boatman on the river, reluctantly agrees to launch the headstrong Evangeline. Joshua has seen hundreds of bodies surface in the Whirlpool below the Falls, and has faced death on the battlefields of Flanders and has no respect for the charming, impetuous Mrs. Murray, and her desire for fame. Before the barrel can be launched, each of them will have to face their own demons, painful secrets will be revealed and the Niagara Rivers will claim two more lives.

Whirlpool is a fiction that is based on reality. Seven people have tried to ride over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Four have succeeded and three have died. The first person to make the attempt was Annie Taylor, a middle aged school teacher from Michigan who made a successful journey in 1901. Barrel riding at Niagara Falls is now forbidden by law, but at the beginning of the 20th century Niagara was a haven for daredevils of all types, and many of their exploits are included in the novel.

DEATH IS OVERRATED - REVIEW BY CATHY MURRAY - UK

An Ideal Holiday Read

UK
US
It's the third novel by Jeffrey Perren that I've read and it shares with the others the author's intention to tell a good yarn. Unlike the others it isn't historical either in part (Clonmac's Bridge) or in whole (Cossacks in Paris) but just like the other two novels it has a wide ranging plot and a cast of unusual and original characters.
There is a dramatic opening scene where the main character, Professor Thomas Paine, is falsely identified as a corpse and has great difficulty proving his identity to the police. The situation is made more complex as Thomas is a visiting American Professor and the police force are in Wales.
An emerging romance between the Chief Inspector's daughter, Terri, and Thomas is thwarted at every turn by a conspiracy of competing interests including other academics and scientists and Thomas' own father.
Moving rapidly between Wales, Ireland and Scotland Thomas is determined to re-establish himself and find out the truth behind the allegations.
This is good escapist fiction ideal for holiday reading or whenever you want to get lost in a long, convoluted plot in which all the threads are skilfully tied up by the end.
I really enjoyed the author's descriptions of the various locations visited in the course of the story. I also liked the juxtaposition of the Welsh voices of some of the characters with the American English of Thomas and the narrator which gives the novel an interesting writing style which is sustained throughout the book.
I was delighted when earlier in the year Jeffrey Perren agreed to an interview for my bookblog and you can read his fascinating answers to my questions here.
