Evening folks,

Plenty of discussions all over the web about indie authors and self-promo. It's hassle, it's a bind etc. Some seem to enjoy it, most seem to hate, nearly all agree it's necessary.

Until today my books have only been available via Amazon, paperback and ebook. My promo level is pretty poor. The occasional post on sites like this, Goodreads, Kindleboards etc. I stick stuff on my blog, Facebook and Twitter. But so does everyone else so it doesn't really lead to any sales.

But presumably cleverer people than I are already doing all of this for Apple Ibook, Nook, Kobo etc etc. There are, I imagine, just as many sites for these formats as for Kindle. So if I expect folk to buy my books am I now going to have to find these sites, sign up and begin the process all over again of introducing myself and my books and hoping someone bites?

I don't think I've got the time. Not unless I either quit my job or stop writing my new book. So here's my question? What's everyone else doing? Are you format specific? Do you not bother with promo? Is there a way to promote across all formats in a more efficient way a kind of one post hits all approach?

While you ponder it, pop over to Smashwords and help yourself to a free sample of one of my books in the format of your choosing.

I feel you Jamie and was wondering the same thing. I just put my books in all the other outlets as well. What a pain in the ass trying to get exposure. Just stick to writing and doing interviews, with the updates on all the sites, and the constant search for new sites, and and and...

I feel the same way.To make it even worse I have very limited computer skills. My most succesful pr attempts have been in the real world doing signings and re-enactment events. My book is about the Civil War.I keep thinking I should have more of a presence online but it seems like everyone is doing the same thing. They all seem to want likes, reviews,& followers but I wonder if this translates into sales.Since I dont know what else to do I imagine I will keep on plodding along.

I have given up on promoting myself on blogs and forums. No one is listening because they have their own agendas! Word of mouth can't be beat!  My sales all seem to be coming from people I meet who are curious about me and what I do. Hopefully, they'll eventually tell their friends, and I'll get some real buzz going. I'm thinking of pulling a good, old-fashioned publicity stunt like Joan Rivers. Make a dress out of books or bury myself alive under a library. haha
