Australian Books!

Welcome!
This is a group for all you Australian Bloggers, Australian Authors and for all those fans of Australian Literature.

My name is Nicole and I am an Australian blogger from the Blue Mountains of NSW. I have a blog called Books, Books Everywhere and on my blog I review books, host giveaways and conduct author interviews.

Alot of the books I review on my blog are Australian books and are therefore more appealing to the Australian audience, so I thought that this group may be a place for people to come together to discuss Australian books, such as Tim Winton's Cloudstreet (Review)

Please have a look at the dicussion boards and post your comments under the appropriate heading.

Happy Reading!

Dear Nicole,

I'm an Australian author, photographer, blogger for emerging / aspiring writers and sometime poet. I have been voluntarily working with IndiePENdents.org to raise the profile of independent authors globally and the purpose of this email is to seek your support, and that of your followers. We are all in this together.

What is IndiePENdents.org?

It is a voluntary organisation that has encouraged, supported and mustered support from authors and writers from around the world. No one receives a salary and there are no subscription fees.  The indiePENdents want to give the creativity of the self-published authors an imprimatur. Books that meet the standards are awarded the indiePENdents' Seal.

How does it work?

Three random members of IndiePENdents.org, all professional writers or editors, review fellow members’ books and provide a simple ‘Yay’ or ‘Nay’. Reviewers pass books which meet basic objective standards of spelling, grammar, punctuation, editing and formatting, outlined on www.indiePENdents.org website.

Where to from here?

Are you aware of recent comments made by Maureen Sullivan, President of the American Library Association (ALA) regarding Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, and Penguin’s refusal to provide access to their e-books in U.S.A? I posted it on my daily blog on 3 October 2012 and you might find it interesting:

I would be happy to send you a draft brochure that I intend to send to the peak council of Australian libraries - a selection of books that have been judged and awarded the indiePENdents.org seal. The Australian Library Association has replied to an email of mine and asked me to present our brochure to their peak council, which comprises senior library representatives of every state and territory in Australia.

Australian Libraries – our allies?

The purpose of this brochure is to introduce a global collection of serious writers who are prepared to self-regulate their own books. Only those that have met the standards, appraised by three of their peers from around the world, are given "The IndiePENdents Seal." All have been professionally edited and world libraries could be our best allies.

Summary:

I would appreciate any comments you may have. Hopefully, the followers of your site will join our campaign, join indiePENdents.org and offer to be a book reviewer. It's free to join. We believe it is in our best interest to work together.

Hi All,

This month we have a copy of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness to give away on our blog - Feed Your Reading Habit.
A Discovery of Witches begins when historian Diana Bishop finds an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library. Though Diana is a witch of impeccable lineage, the violent death of her parents convinced her that human fear is more potent than any witchcraft. Now Diana has unwittingly exposed herself to a world she's kept at bay for years.
To enter our book giveaway just leave a comment on our blog before 5pm EDST on Friday 31st August 2012.The winner of the competition will be announced on Monday 3rd September 2012. Good luck to everyone!!
Happy reading,
