What did the women of the Bible look like? Did they cover their hair and faces with veils?

In many works of art they appear excessively modest, which conforms to the conception of the artists rather than to historical reality.

In truth, the only real hint on women's apparel in the Bible itself comes from the story of Rebecca in Genesis. There the Scripture says that when she met Isaac, she "covered herself with a veil," which may be taken to mean that she did not wear a veil regularly.

On my website you can see another version, of what some women in the Bible really might have looked like.

Wishing you peace,

Eva Etzioni-Halevy

Dear Biblical Fiction Group Members,

Would any of you like to review my biblical novel THE TRIUMPH OF DEBORAH on your blogs? (Apart from Mary who has already undertaken to review).

See description of the novel above. It is not a Christian novel but (despite some sensuous scenes in it) it is a deeply religious novel in the Judeo-Christian tradition.

For more information, please see my website: www.women-in-the-bible.com

if you are interested, please write to me at ehzioe@mail.biu.ac.il

Best,

Eva Etzioni-Halevy
