Review: Desolation by Travis J. Simmons

My Review

I have always loved a good zombie story – be it reading or watching. I would have to say Desolation falls into the good zombie story genre. In addition to the zombies there’s a love story brewing. And add to that the necromancers and it makes for an entertaining read.

My knowledge of necromancy and necromancers was very limited – like I heard it in an ICP song when I was much younger. Never knew what it was, never really cared. But I can say that I now understand what a necromancer is. I don’t know that I’d want the ability to control the dead, but it makes for a good twist for a zombie story.

I fell in love with Asher. He was such a real character. I’m not sure how I would react in a zombie apocalypse, and honestly despite my zombie knowledge, I’d probably be a zombie within a few days. Much like Asher – being bit multiple times. However Asher’s apparent immunity to zombies is something that makes him a much better character than I would be. The love “square” that Asher is in is a nice twist to the story. He wants to do what feels right, but I don’t think any of his options are “right” given the circumstances he finds himself in. However it makes for a good story in between the action packed zombie scenes.

I think it was a pretty good story. It was pretty fast-paced and quite entertaining. I liked the characters and the idea of the story was well executed. It was a new take on the old zombie story and I found it to be a nice change of pace.

ENRAPTURED BY SHOSHANNA EVERS
ENSLAVED TRILOGY VOL 3

The "ENSLAVED" serie is a treat, even if sometimes a little disturbing. But I confess I've not expected a slave story for this third installment.

THE KISSING BOOTH BY BETH REEKLES

I found myself hooked by the characters. I was very surprised with the result and enjoy myself immensely. I was even conquered by the end that is more mature than many romance for teenagers. Frankly, a great discovery.

Book Review - Hazardous Material by Kurt Kamm

Our Book Review
This is the second book I have read by this author, the first being Code Blood which was first rate, the sign of a great author is making the novels fresh and different whilst entertaining the reader.

The writer gives a really good synopsis of his past life and where he draws and uses his inspirations from. This really shines through and by using real people and events with no soft soap you can relate to the situations and the experiences in which the main character is facing and feeling.

The story revolves around Bucky Dawson who is determined to find out what happened to his dead sister and along the way brings him into contact with two rival motorcycle gangs and a world of drug taking, which endangers his own life.

The aspects and ways of the motorcycle gangs are expertly described with hard hitting and gritty facts with startling results again are testimony to the authors research and knowledge.

What makes the difference in a book or novel for myself is the message that the writer is trying to portray or get across.  I think in the message here is that everyone has a different way of coping or getting through the day whether its being a member of a gang which gives you security and comradeship or by taking certain pills to help-you survive.  The story also makes you really think about what action you would actually follow if someone hurt a member of your family, what lengths would you go to find out the truth?

The author is one that I am now following and hopefully will get a chance to read further works because his writing is down to earth, close to the heart and involves real life situations.

Our Beck Valley Books review of Have No Shame by Melissa Foster has just been posted, here is a snippet.....

"The book will have you hooked as you follow the tense rollercoaster story and the shocking and chaotic civil right era along with the sympathisers who help to try and make it a fairer and safer place to live for everyone.

This is quite a powerful and emotional story that at times made me feel pain, sadness and even anger at the way life was so different then and how people were treated so horrendously. Yet the story is written in such a wonderful way that there is also so much beauty, love and respect that it will really pull on your heart. I felt myself wanting to shout out to Alison but had to remind myself that her world was completely different to the world we now take for granted and decisions could not be taken at will.

Truly a highly recommended emotive read that won't just leave you after you have turned the last page. It will certainly leave you wanting more and I cannot wait to read much more from this author."

WHEN I SEE YOU BY KATHERINE OWEN

The author has embarked me into her beautiful romance from the beginning to the end! A deeply distressing and amazing voyage...

It has been a long time since I had not read a romance taking time to live with its characters and make them known and discovered intimately to the readers.

This novel has made me eagerly turned the pages, kleenex in hands!
