I am curious how you keep track and read the books blogs you're following. Do you sign up to have them delivered via email? Do you subscribe via RSS? Do you use Google Reader? Or do you have them all bookmarked and manually check them?
It seems as though there are so many ways to get content from blogs delivered via various services, meaning that readers never have to actually go to your site, unless they want to comment. Does this bother you as a blogger, or are you just happy that folks are reading your content?
I follow RSS. Go to bloglines.com and get an account, and make it your home page. It shows you which blogs are updated and you can view them right there. then to subscribe you just click the little orange subscriby-thingie in the address bar and pick the top selection. it's so easy ;)
Thanks, Haley. Good tip. I probably should have mentioned in my original post - I actually use Google Reader, and have it embedded on my iGoogle homepage. So, it automatically gets updated with everyone's new posts, too.
I am a happy Google reader user. I have all the blogs I'm interested in in one place, so I don't have to check too many places and don't get my mail box filled (even more).
I don't mind people following me through one of the services you mentioned. Why should I? What I have realized, though, is that I don't comment as often as I would if I would check out the individual blogs. I am working on changing that despite using Google reader, though.
I use google reader, and I rarely actually go to a blog unless I want to comment. As a blogger, well, yes, I'd rather have people visiting my site rather than just reading through a reader. I think it's because I enjoy the dialogue that can ensue with comments, and people are so much less likely to leave comments if they are using a reader.
I do a little bit of everything really. I have tons of google reader sorted by book blogs, vs personal blogs. Then I have some on e-mails, and a few on click and visit list. I have to use my time wisely or I'll never get off the computer or have time to read which is how I got a book blog to begin with. :)
I follow most blogs I like through Google Reader. However, the blogs that I comment on most often (usually because the blogger and I have similar taste in books, or b/c I just LOVE their blogs) I have saved in my Favorites and visit individually. I haven't had a lot of time lately, so I am glad to just to go Google reader to see what everyone's up to.
