New book blogger here (thenewdorkreviewofbooks.blogspot.com) - just getting started, and wondering if any of you could shoot me some advice on how to locate readers. I suck at self-marketing, so I am hoping the community here can provide some tips about strategies or sites (other than facebook) used to land loyal readers. Thanks for your help!

I agree... this is the tired and true way to get them. Fancy sites are nice, but if you don't have the time to keep up with them, they just won't work. Find a small group of blogs you like and be a loyal commented, and it will come back to you!
Best of luck-
P.S. I am going to go check out your blog now if your link is on your page.
I agree with everyone, find the blog groups and sites you like, make friends and stick with them. you can also go to google blog search and find book blogs or topics that fit your story. twitter is another great way to find readers that would be interested in your stories. book contests, giveaways, and reviews are also great ways to promote.
There's some great advice here. I struggle with the patience it takes to really gain followers.....It seems like you can promote the heck out of your blog, but ultimately it just comes down to who like what you're writing well enough to follow you.
Haha, I meant to add.... I like your blog, it's cool. I like to see what other people are reading and maybe get some idea for books i haven't read yet/
Having the contest has really helped us. But what others have said is true, you have to have the content to keep people coming back. And of course, not only following others but commenting on their blogs as well! Speaking of which, I'll go check yours out!
