Should I Notify an Author After a Review?

What do you think?
My blog isn't terribly large (drying-ink.blogspot.com), but I've heard different opinions on this. After I've reviewed a book, should I notify the author?

More often than not, I haven't contacted the author and they have stumbled upon my review in one way or another (either through word of mouth or Google) and they've left a lovely comment about my review - which really makes my day.

However, I did try to contact Stephen King once through his notice board and nearly got banned as a member of it by the moderator (there's no other way to contact him). So, I don't contact authors anymore, I just leave it up to them to read my reviews if they find them on the net.
