It was pointed out in another thread in this forum that book review posts don't usually generate a lot of comments. Sometimes it's hard to think of what to write about other than book reviews. I was thinking it would be helpful to have a list of the types of posts relevant to book blogs so that when we have writers block, we can look at the list and see if that helps spark an idea of what to write about other than an actual review.

Here's what I thought of off the top of my head:

--Sharing a quote from a book and discussing your thoughts
--Linking to other people's reviews of a book you are reading or have read and adding your own thoughts of their review.
--Sharing news stories relevant to books/reading and adding your thoughts
--Making a list of the best books about sea voyages, best romance novels, best _________
--Sharing a "how to," perhaps how you organize your books or how you chose what to read next

"Hot topics" generate a lot of interest. Chris at Book-a-Rama did a post today that had well over 30 comments when I read it. She'd seen an article about authors wanting royalties on used books that are sold (particularly at used book stores).

Another topic could be books you're looking forward to being released.

Or what about something about your book club? I know I've been thinking about doing a post on the pros/cons of having the author join the discussion.
Thanks for the shout out, Trish! That was one of my most successful posts. I really loved the discussion it started.

It was a good post Christina! Who would have thought used books would be so contentious?!
Thanks so much for starting this post! I'm fairly new to blogging and have been trying to come up with things to post other than just reviews. These are great suggestions :)

There are always book-related memes as a go-to. Booking Through Thursday comes to mind first, but there's one for just about every day of the week now, I think. In addition to the daily memes, there are always random ones floating around. If one grabs you - some of them are basically a series of short-answer questions and can be good food for thought - don't wait to be "tagged," steal it :-)! But do link to the blog where you found it.

I find that reading other blogs has given me some of the best ideas for posts on my own blog. I also branch out into a lot of non-book topics, including more personal stuff, but not every book blogger wants to go that route. (That's one reason I also contribute to a moms' blog.)

But yes, I've noticed that my book review posts are among my least commented, especially when I'm reviewing something from my own collection (not a fairly "hot" new release or ARC that's making the rounds).
We should all try to comment on each other's review posts more! :)
I just thought of another source of potential post ideas. What about the book club questions designed by various websites or by the publisher of the book? I would think there might be some good post ideas that would generate comments. What do you guys think?
