How can we connect with readers?

Connecting with readers is the hardest. But there are a few things that you could do. Firstly when featured on someone's blog, always keep an eye out when your featured and check the replies left, which will be by readers that are interested in your work, talk with them and give them your time, it might be one reader at a time but good manners pays off.

Secondly there is a site called you can join display your writing, and do an e-book giveaway when ever you like, it's readers that enter the competitions for your book - it's based on points. Anyway whoever bids the highest wins and you get their email address to send them on the e-book attach all your information blog, website, facebook fanpage, twitter ect. You will see they will check in to your accounts and leave comments, that you should respond to.

Create a group - I created a group a group on facebook my personal page called Reviews of fantasy/Paranormal books 17 people joined so far only 3 authors. Already I have been in contact with two readers enjoying my reviews and went and got the books - then they asked me did I write fantasy. Told them about my book and one of them ordered it off amazon and is reading it now. I notice they keep an eye on every post I make.

Also never forget that authors can be your biggest fans too, I have met some amazing authors on a group called the writers network, run by Bruce Goldwell and a few of them have got my book and helped promote my work, so that is why I decided to review authors books- not well known ones, to give something back, it's about helping one another. Working on your own is like throwing a pebble into a lake, now imagine throwing a boulder in the impact is enormous.

I know it seems slow but what you are getting is genuine fans, even if your building them one at a time.
(This is due to experience)
Hope this helps,

I see this so much and i don't know if it's just me but it annoys the hell out of me. I have a blog and I post things that are relevant to my book or just stuff that I want to share if people follow it, it means they enjoy what i write but most of all that they READ it. Why O why do people say "follow my blog and I'll follow yours back" it's not about numbers if you can capture one person who loves what you say and finds it interesting is that not enough instead of 1,000 people who just followed you so you would follow them back. Maybe it's me.

Eden Forest my first fantasy novel is part of a competition called writers got talent. I am so pleased to say that Eden Forest has made it to the final. (YEAH) but now is the most crucial time for votes. So visit and when you see Eden Forest click recommend it and that's it, your vote cast. I would so so appreciate this. Thank you. :)

I am not familiar with pr-prolog. I wrote my own press release originally. My niece who works for a major fin company in a high level position was kind enough to edit it and now I am updating it as I need and using. originally I was going to use a blast approach thru one of the Pr services, but changed my mind as I was getting far better results/response from anyone I was approaching via very carefully crafted emails ---kind of in the spirit of tailoring letters for job resumes. I have just been approached by an indie book site that features .99-2.99 ebooks with good ratings. sorry, I forget the actual site. on my iPad now. they want $50.00 for a month of advertising. I'll check further with writer friends from this site and goodreads and then decide.

Thanks very much Bernice, for giving us feedback. Mine book also was released in September 2012. Still trying to promote it. I did about 7 radio interviews myself and didn't see a difference  I am really starting to believe that word of mouth is the most powerful tool there is. Did you use PR-prlog to promote your pr release? just curious.

I have had mixed results with newspapers.  The setting of my historical fiction book is Norwich, CT. I have an appearance this Saturday, Feb 9, in New London, CT at the Monte Christo Bookstore and have had difficulty getting the attention of the New London Day or Norwich Bulletin, both for this appearance and for others that occurred in December. I think their view of what goes in is different than in years gone by, as both papers are owned by chain out-of-towners. The Westerly Sun just over the border in RI, responded to my email right away, assigned a writer who was so cordial, and today a well written news item appeared.  A local radio station agreed to provide on-air reminders for more than one of my area appearances. Everyone around here is also posting in online newspapers such as I have yet to pursue or be pursued for a radio interview.  My book was released September 2012.  I have no idea if radio interviews make a difference in sales, but I will tell you that though readers of newspapers may not attend an appearance, in my case, I think the advance PR has translated into increased sales during the period.  BLR
