Whether you are a patriotic Australian, an aspiring or armchair tourist or simply an international reader wanting to discover some talented new authors and interact with like-minded readers, the 2013 Aussie Author Challenge could be for you!

Now in its fourth year, I have decided to again offer 2 participation levels in the Aussie Author Challenge in 2013:

(1) TOURIST, for those who just want to dip their toe into the talent on offer from ‘down under’, and

(2) FAIR DINKUM, for those wanting to stretch themselves enough to unearth a few gems they may otherwise miss out on.

Go to the dedicated 2013 Aussie Author Challenge Pageto find out more details and how to get involved.

Each month during the challenge I will be highlighting new titles being released by Australian authors and notable reviews by challenge participants.

BUT, first things first….

… we need to name our challenge mascot for 2013, the ‘echidna’. I am thinking it is a ‘she’ but I could still be persuaded otherwise.

Please provide your naming suggestions for our mascot HERE, and I will set up a vote.

I am inviting all lovers of the written word to join me in my Short Story Summer Challenge, 1 December 2012 – 28 February 2013.

With the weather starting to steam up here in the southern hemisphere and so much going on over Christmas and the New Year period I figured it would be the perfect time to slot in some bite-sized reading.

Anyone who is interested can sign-up and share links to their reviews of short story collections over the period.

The Challenge

To read and review four (4) published collections of short stories or essays during the Southern Summer, 1 December 2012 – 28 February 2013.

I have included essays because I know there are lots of non-fiction buffs out there. The collections can be from a single author or multiple authors. Those shivering away in the northern hemisphere are welcome to join us southerners in the hope of feeling warmer ;) I hope to arrange some short story author interviews and other features during the challenge also.

For full details on how to get involved, check out the Short Story Summer Challenge home page.

Hello everyone! We're inviting one and all to join our Award-Winning-Books Reading Challenge 2012! We are not restricting this to children’s and YA book awards, nor to books published in 2012. All award-winning books published in previous years are welcome. We also welcome entries on adult literature such as books that previously won the Man Booker Prize, Man Asian Literary Prize, the Pulitzer, and other recognition of exceptionality in literary works. This is also not restricted to international awards, local/regional award giving bodies would likewise be honored. Lezzjoinus! Sign up here
