I'm curious what others would single out as their favorite cozy or favorite cozy author. I love Agatha Christie's novels, but wouldn't be able to pick out just one... I'm also a big fan of Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series. Now that I'm blogging, I'm discovering lots of new, fantastic authors. I really enjoyed Oblivious by Cyndia Depre, and One Bad Apple by Sheila Connolly.

What about you? New favorites, old favorites?

Some of my favorite mystery authors are Western writers who I've gotten to know at conferences: C.J Box, Kathy Brandt, Diane Mott Davidson, Christine Goff, Maggie Sefton, Robert Spiller, and Margaret Coel. I also enjoy light-hearted series by Alexander McCall Smith, Donna Andrews, and Tim Cockey. My all-time favorite mystery writer is Sharyn McCrumb, and I'm collecting all her books.

I have so many series I love!

Joan Hess - both her Claire Malloy series and the Maggody series. I can never wait to read the next one!
Mary Daheim - her Bed & Breakfast series

M. C. Beaton's 'Agatha Raisin' series, set in England. These books are great!

I used to enjoy Jill Churchill's Jane Jeffrey series, but the last one was just pathetic.

I love Alice Kimberly (who also writes as Cleo Coyle), Donald Bain, Victoria Lauris, Elaine Viets, Rhys Bowen, and Victoria Thompson. I know I'm forgetting several. There is a series that takes place in a small town in Indiana and the girl works at shop that is owned by a woman practicing witchcraft. There is also the Flower Shop Mysteries that are set in Indiana. I live in Indiana and I'm always excited to find books that take place in my home state.

Could you be thinking of the Bewitching Mystery series written by Madelyn Alt? The main character's name is Maggie. I've read the first four but have still to read the fifth. It's a good series.

I also like Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse Mysteries and Victoria Laurie's Ghost Hunter Mysteries. I'm just now starting Carolyn Hart's Death On Demand and am looking forward to Julie Kaewert's Booklover's Mystery stories. So many mysteries, so little time!

I am well past the halfway point, writing a mystery, Opening Day, which is the second in my Matt Davis series. If you like "Murder She Wrote," you will love this book. My first mystery was a very graphic, sexual thriller, As the Twig is Bent, which, admittedly, was not for "everyone." However, it has been ranked as high as 6,000 in its Kindle form, and is currently selling three copies per day between paperback and Kindle.

If anyone would like to take a "peek" at Opening Day, I have uploaded the prologue and first two chapters for your consideration. I welcome your comments.Prologue and first two chapters.doc

Actually, my favorite "cozy," author is William C. Tappley, who writes the Brady Coyne mystery series. I enjoy the fact that Tappley, who is an avid fly fisherman, incorporates his passion into his writing. I, too, am a fly fisherman, and like Tappley, I have chosen to have my main character in my Matt Davis mystery series be a fly fisherman as well. Since we writers are advised to "write what we [sic] know," I feel that to do so adds credibility to one's writing.
