Skeleton Trail
By Kasey Riley
Publisher: Webb Lane Enterprises
Published: August 2014
ISBN: 978-1500863265
ASIN: B00MTUQLH0
Pages: 299
Genre: Mystery/Suspense

Bethany and Roger Meadows plan for a bright future, a guest camp and pack station that will cater to horse owners and adventure campers. The campgrounds, cabins, stables, and pavilion are ready, but there are no trails for the guests to explore.

Bethany and Megan venture into the woods to mark a trail, but a frightening accident brings her face to skull with a mummified corpse. She sends Megan and Kam out to guide FBI Forensic specialist David Harrison to the location of the body. After Megan leaves, an unknown shooter attempts to keep the murder a mystery.

Agent David Harrison finds when the bullets start flying Kam leads him to an abandoned cabin where they wait out the storm and the shooter. He discovers he wants to explore their shared heritage, in private.

With the evidence they uncovered in the cabin and the corpse itself, the mystery unfolds and the connections to current day become clearer. Crimes of the distant past link to crimes of the closer past and even to crimes of the present; blackmail, extortion, arson, and murder attempts link the body and some of the current residents of Riverview. David and Kam work with Megan and Aaron to uncover connections and reveal what occurred so long ago and how it might affect people in the town today.

David and Kam grow closer with each new danger, coming to appreciate the similarities in their pasts and the differences that draw them to each other. Once all the mysteries are solved, can they find a way to become a lasting couple, or will her past interfere with their future?

This book, like the first Riverview mystery, Desperate Endurance, shows the values and cohesiveness of small town and rural America. People are willing to help each other and sacrifice as needed to keep each other safe in a very rugged and unforgiving land.

One reviewer said, "Many twists and turns in this story. Made you stop and think. Just when I thought I knew what was coming next, I was thrown another curve. Ms Mikell is a great author with an endless imagination. This book would make a good movie. Lets hope this happens, I would see it in an instant." L. Cesario

But I want another opinion; eBook is 99 cents at http://www.amazon.com/Silence-Broken-Yvonne-Mikell-ebook/dp/B00H032ZCQ

Serial Vengeance
By Melissa Wren
ISBN: 978-1481870306
ASIN: B00LBD9TKC
Published: June 2014
Genre: Psychological Thriller/Suspense
Formats Available For Review: print (only available to qualified reviewers/bloggers), ebook, kindle

If it were just one or two high-profile adulterers committing suicide in the heart of Washington, D.C., it wouldn’t be much of a story. But it keeps happening. And their suicide notes all say the same thing: “I deserve to die.”

Grieving her stillborn son, and reeling from the mysterious disappearance of her best friend two years prior, Olivia Penn buries herself in her work. She’s a Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter for the Washington Post, and if there’s one thing she knows, it’s the scent of a front-page story.

Olivia begins connecting the string of supposed celebrity suicides together, obsessed with breaking the story that there’s a serial killer on the loose in D.C. When the FBI takes over, Olivia knows she’s on to something and has trouble staying out of their way.

A sensational double murder ups the ante in this dangerous psychological game. It’s the first time “The Punisher” reveals himself. Thinking she has nothing to lose, Olivia baits the psychopathic killer with her news stories, putting herself in his crosshairs. Now it becomes terrifyingly personal.

Between her stalker, who is breaking into her home and leaving notes that indicate he knows something about the serial killer, and the strange connections to her best friend’s disappearance, Olivia is caught in a complicated web—and the only way out is to discover why she seems to be the common denominator in this nightmare.

As she uncovers the truth, Olivia discovers that death is closer than she realized.

Author Melissa Wren brings a background in journalism and over four years of experience living in the heart of Washington, D.C. to this dark, suspenseful, psychological thriller set among the political intrigue of the nation’s capitol. Wren lives in a quaint rock cabin off the historical town square in Granbury, Texas with her two spoiled and quirky Yorkies, Emmaline and Oliver. She’s surrounded by family, friends and books and loves dining out for Mexican food.
