A Suitable Boy: A Novel
Our book club read A Suitable Boy: A Novel by Vikram Seth and we met at my house. I tried to really create a fun atmosphere because that was a really long and difficult book and I knew there wouldn't be much enthusiasm. I made dinner and served chicken curry, pompadoms, basmati rice and a rice pudding for dessert. Everyone was told to wear their saris and we had lots classical Indian music along with a little belly dancing. Check out this video.

What a fun group! Unfortunately, our book club doesn't do themed food for our meetings but I think I'll try this when I host next.
A different book club that I attend had fun cupcakes that matched the personalities of each of the characters of the book. It was fun.
On another note, I have a series on my blog where I ask authors during their interviews for their favorite recipes. It's been fun to make them. Everything from drinks, to soups, pasta, etc.

I love to cook almost as much as I love to read and I enjoy trying to connect the refreshments/appetizers with the book we're discussing. Just always looking for new foods/book ideas.

Great idea for a group Brenda! I'm impressed with the dinner you put together for sure!
Our book club isn't very elaborate with our food. But, we did have "Blood Orange" Italian soda floats when we read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
There is a recipe at the beginning of The Next Thing on my List by Jill Smolinski (that is kind of central to the story) for taco soup. It looked easy enough, but I'm ashamed to say it didn't occur to me to make it when I was in charge of the food for that book club night!
