Hi there!

My name is Peppe Arninge, an award winning photojournalist from Sweden, specialized in documentary and social issues. Before that, I worked many years as a news photographer for Swedish and American media, covering anything from tsunamis to political issues in South East Asia.
After many trips to Cambodia I got drawn into the world of child labour and exploitation and on the spot decided to spend major time as a photographer documenting these issues.


In 2011 I presented my new book The Dump, a 120-page photo book, at the Gothenburg Book Fair. It is a photo book  in black and white, in which I have photographed and interviewed many people along the dirty roads on and around the infamous garbage dumps of Phnom Penh. It is also a book in which I critizise the global aid, as it doesn't really provide anyone much help.

Conclusion: most of the money goes directly into the pockets of primeminister Hun Sen, his friends and his ruling party, the CPP. By showing the outside world what it looks like in Cambodia, after more than 30 years of global funding, I believe that there might be a slight chance for a change in the future. Especially as it, as always, are the children that are the biggest losers.

SUMMARY
The Dump is a photo book about some of the most silent and abused people in the world. They are the unfortunate, who have been forced to spend their lives on and around the notorious Cambodian garbage dumps. It is a journey along a road of poverty, humiliation and oceans of tears with no end and no apparent hope for the future. This book is also a tribute to the most persistent people on earth, who refuse to give up the only thing they have - their pride as human beings. After decades of an extremely brutal domestic war, Cambodia today is a fragile, tropical paradise with incomprehensible corruption and a total lack of human rights. For a large group, "being Cambodian" doesn't mean that you're part of something bigger. It means that you're part of a mental and physical holocaust that never ceases.

BIOGRAPHY
Peppe Arninge, born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1959 has been a freelance contract photographer for Scanpix Sweden (AP, AFP, Reuters, DPA and Corbis) since mid-1990's. He also worked under contract with New York-based picture agency WpN between 2005 and 2009.
Based in South East Asia, his single pictures and photographic stories have regularly been published in almost every newspaper in Scandinavia. His work has also appeared in a variety of international publications such as the Los Angeles Times (US), Chicago Tribune (US), Mauritius Times, The Times (UK), Gazeta (PL), Helsinkin Sanomaat (FIN), Bangkok Post (TH), Focus (GER), Sacramento Bee (US), L'Espresso (IT), and Days Japan. The Swedish government, county councils, publishing houses, advertising agencies, PR consultants, commercial buyers and a wide range of web-based news providers and television stations around the world have showcased his images. His work has also been exhibited at art museums and European photo galleries.
