I am working on something... that may be considered a memoir. It is more a collection of thoughts, feelings, reactions that I connect with my photography. It covers various aspects and stages of my life.

I loved A Girl Named Zippy...and I love memoirs...especially historical ones.

I'm a new member, Glo, and I'm not sure what I've written--but it is fascinating to me! I collected life stories about a black woman I knew growing up--not sure if it's a bio or memoir. Having trouble getting an agent, but getting very positive reject letters (is that an oxymoron?). Anyone have advice/knowledge of authorized black agents/publishers? All is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Harvee, I've done genealogical research, too. I relied mostly on the information that other researchers of the same family were willing to share. For me, writing is more difficult than research.

Am attempting to write a memoir - doing family research and research on our "clan" is daunting. I posted a discussion question on the main page re research vs writing, which is harder.

Welcome Jackie. How wonderful that you have so much experience and will share it with others. Writing a memoir can be overwhelming and it's so good to receive encouragement from people who have done it.

Hi Sara -

Thanks for starting this blog. I have wriitten five books of Memoirs (JOURNEY OF A GENTLE SOUTHERN MAN, CHANCES AND CHOICES, HALFWAY HOME, THE BOOKBINDER, THE SUNRISE REMEMBERS). My sixth will be out in 2010.

I am teaching a class on "Memoir Writing" at the Margaret Mitchell House this Sunday (January 18) and am very excited about it.

Some of my favorite memoirs were A Girl Named Zippy by Haven Kimmel and On Writing by Stephen King.
