NOW AVAILABLE FOR REVIEW FROM UNTREED READS PUBLISHING

Close to a Killer by Marsha Qualey

Young Adult Thriller 110 pages $4.99

Two prominent city residents have been murdered, and Barrie knew both of them. But does she know their killer? The police have connected both victims to her mother's hair salon, and the obvious focus has become Barrie's mom and the other stylists, all of whom happen to be convicted killers who met in prison vocational school.

Amidst intriguing people whom she can't quite trust, and forced into living with the mother she can't forgive, Barrie tries to ignore the uproar by immersing herself in her writing. But when she shares a troubling suspicion with the homicide detective, she suddenly finds herself pulled deeper into a situation that's growing more frightening every day.

About Author Marsha Qualey:

Award winning young adult author Marsha Qualey turned to her favorite childhood books for inspiration when writing her first novel for adults, Venom and the River.

In third grade when she first discovered Maud Hart Lovelace’s Betsy-Tacy books in her public library, Qualey remained a devoted reader of the series, so much so that as an adult she became involved in a fan group dedicated to keeping Lovelace’s books in print. That involvement in the Maud Hart Lovelace Society was the trigger for her new novel, which explores the internecine battles of the Ida May Turnbull Society, a fan group devoted to a series of children’s books, books that acquired international fame when turned into a television show, Little Girl, Big River, set in a small Minnesota town on the Mississippi River.

Qualey’s previous novels books have appeared on numerous best-of-the-year lists, including the American Library Association’s Best Books for Young Adults, the New York Public Library's Books for the Teen Age, and School Library Journal's Best Books of the Year. She has won two Minnesota Book Awards and been nominated for an Edgar Award by the Mystery Writers of America. In addition to writing, she teaches in Hamline University’s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program.

Crime Fiction Available For Review

Lady Laughing
By Bruce J. Cameron
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 978-1490913834
Published: November 2013
Pages: 136
Genre: Crime, Fiction
Formats Available For Review: Paperback and Kindle

The novel Lady Laughing is a fictional account of real events that took place in the 1990′s. In 1991 and again in 1994, commercial airliners, both Boeing 737s, crashed under amazingly similar sets of circumstances. They both took place in clear weather, on approach to landings at major airports and suffered the loss of all aboard. The NTSB says the only two unsolved airline crashes were the result of “uncontrolled collision with terrain for undetermined reasons”.

Could that “undetermined reason” be murder? For Brad and Elizabeth, two of the coldest, most depraved contract killers ever, the first one was just practice; the second would be payday, big time.

For NTSB crash investigator Art Campos, it is a maddeningly elusive puzzle. He has a photo of the killers, but nothing else. His only chance to catch them is to offer himself as bait, and time is running out.
