I got Dead and Gone at 8am on Tuesday, the day it came out! I have been waiting on tenterhooks to read What Happens Next in the Sookieverse. Check out my spoiler free review

Has anyone else read it yet? What did you think of the new, darker turn the series took? Did it tie up any loose ends from the previous 8 books, or just add more suspense for you? And MOST importantly, how frustrated are you with Sookie's unresolved love life??!

Darker turn... well, in the world Sookie lives in, eventually something bad had to happen to her.

Several loose ends got tied up, but now there are a whole lot more. But this is a series, so there have to be loose ends to make us want to read the next book. I was pleased with the ending. The loose ends are more of a starting point for other books, we weren't left with any cliffhangers, I don't think.

Sookie's love life... I'm not exactly frustrated, but I am curious about what happens next.

And that's all I think I can say to answer your questions without giving spoilers.
I'm reading it, but not finish. I will get back with you
I think the books were getting darker in Definitely Dead. That was when I realize that Sookie was changing. She was starting to get an attitude. There is always more suspense in these books and there are always loose ends, but I LOVE the fact that she doesn't leave us off with a massive cliff hanger. God bless her. I thought for a moment when I saw the pages dwindling that we were going to end up there. I like how her love life turned kinda turned in this. *spolier* I think her ties have pretty much ended with Quinn and even though her love life hasn't been settle I am pretty happy how it ended. I'm still with Team Eric, but I think in the end she will be with Sam.
I finished this one up yesterday. I really enjoyed it. I agree with Kirsten, darkness in Sookie's world is inevitable.
I think Sookie's love life took a turn for the better in this book, I can't wait to see what happens next.

This is my favorite book in the series since Dead to the World.
Dead to the World is still my favorite, but this is my second.
Has anyone seen the new covers? Ugh!
I don't mind the tv show tie in covers. But the new trade paperback covers suck.
**SPOILER**

DO NOT READ MY COMMENT UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!

So.... I LOVED this book! I CANNOT believe Eric and Sookie get married!!!! Granted.. she didn't actually know she was doing it but whatever! lol. I LOVE that Bill is still in love with her and I LOVE that Eric is too. I felt so sorry for Claudine when she died, especially being pregnant. I think it's stupid for Niall to close the Faery portal b/c he was fighting against it the entire book! I wonder what happens to Dermot... I guess we'll have to see in Book 10. I don't think Sookie's love life is too unresolved... I mean.. she's MARRIED to Eric, and she's in love with him! I think she still has feelings for Bill b/c he was her first and she WAS in love with him at one point. ***sigh*** I hope we don't have to wait another year for the next book... even though I'm sure we will =(
I agree, Vanessa, about the heightened level of commitment between Eric and Sookie, but the issue still remains....

He will live forever
She will grow old and die

How could that possibly work? On CH's website she states that Sookie won't become a vampire...
So true... she WILL get older and he will stay gorgeous **sigh**

My friend said she read somewhere (I think on Charlaine's site) that Sookie never sleeps with Bill again. Have you heard anything like that?

What do you think should happen in the series? Do you think she should stick to shapeshifters and Weres since technically they are half human?
siiiiighhhh, i don't know!!!!11!!!! i am a huuuuge Eric fan, out of all her relationships he has treated her the best, offered her the most, and seems the most compatible, so i am blinded by that relationship and can't imagine Sookie with anyone else.

but i wouldn't be surprised if she ends up with a were or shifter so they can live happily ever after since that's not possible with a vampire. i just trust the awesome writing skills and imagination of CH to somehow make it work, because my imagination can't come up with a resolution!

maybe the fairy blood in Sookie will become more prevalent, or her drinking soooo much of Eric's blood will help keep her young and live longer????
I have not read the series but I love True Blood. Can't wait for the season. And here I thought I only loved lycans. Can one read Dead and Gone without reading the earlier ones? Don't have time, but am hoping the series will make it easier to read the last book.
