Poetry and Poets

How can we write about, recommend and review poetry, when it's so subjective? How can we learn more as readers, or educate those who don't consider themselves "poetry people?"

My poetry book 'Love, Hurt And Loss A Collection Of Poetry' By Helen Ingram will be free on May 4th

The book can be purchased on Amazon  and the format is Kindle Edition

I’m a new poetry author on the Kindle book scene; although my work is self-published. My work has been through strict editorial processes to ensure this product is of high standard. I'm a poet from the UK who has been writing poetry for over six years now, probably more. I am a very creative person, who was brought up in Cheshunt in Hertfordshire then went to Staffordshire University to obtain my BA Fine Art Degree, before returning back to Cheshunt in 2010. I am a mother and a wife. This book uses a varied style, of different poetry approaches of form and rhyme. This poetry is not like the ones you read at school. I don't know about you but for more poetry should be enjoyable and not be like a lesson in literature but more fun and light hearted. I first started writing poetry at of sixteen as part of English literature qualification this was entitled 'What Is A Bully' which was published in 'Future Voices from Hertfordshire' by the company Forward Poetry. After writing this I was sold. At first when I started writing I was just letting things that frustrated me onto the page without realizing it, that I was actually writing poetry. Such things that frustrated me at the time were relationships waiting for ‘Mr. Right’ to come along and the arguments that come with this. How my family winds me up and the loss of both of my grandpa’s in the same year. I also had friends that were being sexually harassed that lend to the poem 'Frozen.’ These are some of the themes that are represented throughout my poetry book. Such other themes include regret, loss, hurt, and sex. The theme of sex is represented in a clean way as it’s not direct in like here's a penis and vagina. It is more sensual and written in a metaphoric sense. Like penetration being described as:
'Sliding up and down, like a rabbit peeping in and out of a hole,' An extract from 'Adore'

The poetry book enables the reader to reflect and relate on their own life. This poetry book is already available on Amazon; just enter ‘Love, Hurt and Loss’ in the search bar to find my book

About the book:

Why Photographers Commit Suicide explores, in small narratives and lyrical poems, the American idea of Manifest Destiny, particularly as it relates to the next frontier—space exploration. Mary McCray examines the scientific, psychological and spiritual frontiers enmeshed in our very human longing for space, including our dream of a space station on Mars. These poems survey what we gain and what we lose as we progress towards tomorrow, and how we can begin to understand the universal melancholy we seem to cherish for what we leave behind, the lives we have already lived. McCray unearths our feelings about what it means to move ahead and stake out new territory, and what it means to be home.

My new ebook is FREE for one day!(Thursday September 20, 2012)

"a song for the sunset's daughter" will be free on Amazon on Thursday September 20, 2012.

The book is a collection of haunting lyrical poems about lost love, as well as a few tongue-in-cheek numbers to save the whole thing from morbidity.

It represents a fragment of my poetry spanning the past 26 years, and contains some of my best work, at least in my own opinion.

Download it while it's free!
