- I grew up on Long Island, New York, got a BA in English from Stanford, then put that hard-earned degree to dubious use in the family packaging business. After a decade of trying to convince myself to think 'inside' the box (lots of them), I fled to Vermont where I attempted to regain my sanity by chopping wood and shoveling snow off the roof - for 8 years. Like a fine cocktail, I was by then thoroughly shaken and chilled. What could be better after that than no sunshine for 13 years. That's right - Seattle.
For the past 6 years I have been taking the cure in Arizona, where my skin has darkened to a rich shade of pallid. I live in Phoenix with the amazing Stephany and our daughter, Allison, crowded into close proximity by hundreds of glittering mineral specimens Steph and I have collected while rockhounding. "They're just a bunch of rocks," says Allison. Ouch.

I have just completed my new autobiography, and I would like for the world to be able to check it out. I believe that it would change people's lives just by the sharing of these events, and my ultimate survival. For many years I sat alone and thought that my life was just a mistake or an unfortunate accident due to my circumstances, but then I heard the awesome voice of God in my heart and I decided to share it with the world. It would be an honor to have a person like you share in the experience. I give all of my thanks and glory to God for bringing me through such a trial, but as I said there is a reason for all of our tribulations on this earth, to be able to strengthen one another with our experiences and triumphs. I checked out your book, I'm a big historical fiction fan and will put it on my to read list. Love the cover and all those five star reviews!

Some play from the newspapers in the town I grew up in and a few notices from newspapers in the town I live in, but mostly I sold books because of word of mouth. I did lots of book signings and the people who liked the book told two friends and they told two friends... Basically just hard slogging. I came at it like a business and built my following one reader at a time. Sorry. If there's a magic formula, I don't have it!

Thanks so much for the message back and the invitation to review your book. While it sounds right up my alley, I'm afraid I'm not accepting new review books at the moment... I just got married a month ago and my new husband and I (and 2 step-kids) are in the process of buying a new house/moving and selling our two old houses - while also trying to finish writing my own book(s) in progress. Things are insane around here as a result, and I'm simply not able to take on any new review books right now - I'm still trying to fulfill obligations from the summer that have backlogged (I do all my own reviews).
Again, so sorry I can't do a review now - best of luck to you with the book though, it sounds very interesting and I'm sure you'll have a lot of success with it!
