Favorite Book
How about writers... mine are mainly mystery writers from the past. Ross MacDonald. I loved to read about locations I was familiar with. Tony Hillerman, as I learned so much about the Navajo culture (whose art I find beautiful) and the Spenser series by Robt. Parker
About Me:
I mainly do photography, but do enjoy writing thoughts and feelings to go with the images I take. I love gardening and nature.

Advice from Ray Bradbury

Comment at the end of image: In order to motivate your listeners, you the teacher must renew yourself. You must stay in touch with that inner you, the child... believe in yourself and enjoy what you do. Be free, open to change and be joyous

A shot in the arm.

I think my photography will be getting a shot in the arm. It has been so difficult to get myself involved in my photography in any way lately. I received a call from the A. E. Backus Gallery in Fort Pierce, FL today and they want me to show my work in the Holiday exhibit... November 25th - January 2nd. There will be artists displaying 12-15 different mediums... from oils, pottery, to photography (me). Because of the large number of artists... I will not have to prepare as many photographs to han… Continue

The Edge of Life

Some times I think we go through life... just looking at the surface of events, feelings and even people. We don't put out the effort to go deeper, to learn more about a person or event. "I don't have the time!" is our excuse. That person may have been the one with the opportunity… Continue

Special Preparation Before Writing.

This crazy world makes it hard to become focused. I do not see how young mothers can manage to do so with young children. I had a friend who would lock herself in the bedroom... with her children at the door, despite saying.. this is my time!!

My concentration or lack of it I could probable blame on the fact I am a Senior Citizen, but I feel that is just a cop-out. So, I try meditation in various forms. I have either a note pad or a voice recorder, handy for walks or sudden inspirations. I cann… Continue

Types of Books I Have Read over Time

I know I mentioned mysteries, but in a complete contrast... I love philosophical books, by spiritual writers. I have read most of Thomas Merton, some Henri Nouwen. Later in life I read books by Eknath Easwaran, Nancy Wilson Ross, Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh. I read about finding Peace in a troubled world. It all has helped me find peace within. There were more, individual authors here and there.

For a good number of years I practiced yoga and more recently Qigong. Both of these help to align no… Continue

Dear Book Lover:

You may not know me or my work, but I am the national bestselling, award winning novelist of six critically acclaimed novels who has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction

On Jan 9th, 2010 my debut novel, SUGAR will celebrate its 10th anniversary and in order to commemorate this milestone I am campaigning to sell 10,000 copies between now and that date.

“Bernice L. McFadden's first novel begins with the brief, poetic description of a crime so startling that the reader is helplessly drawn in, as if a bright red door stood ajar on a bleak and forbidding house. Pearl Taylor's daughter, Jude, has been found murdered and mutilated near a field at the edge of town. "The murder had white man written all over it," writes McFadden. "But no one would say it above a whisper. It was 1940. It was Bigelow, Arkansas. It was a black child. Need any more be said?" In the years that follow, Pearl catches sight of Jude in so many strangers that when Sugar Lacey comes to town and sets up her unwholesome "business" in the house next door, she doesn't know whether to believe what she sees in Sugar's face: a striking similarity to Jude, dead 15 years. In her sedate but supple prose--rising at times to a light, unforced lyricism in the description of landscape or character--the author perfectly renders the closed and protective society of a small Southern town, the superstitions, gossip, and prying.”

I’m asking that you purchase a copy of SUGAR for yourself, a friend or family member. And yes, KINDLE purchases count.

If you could help spread the word by blogging, twittering ad Face-booking my campaign, it would mean the world to me.

Peace & Light,

Bernice L. McFadden
