About Me:
Born in Leicester, soon to study in Lincoln and with his home in the Leicestershire market town of Melton Mowbray, Ben Atkinson has spent all of his life thus far in the East Midlands. But his imagination knows no such boundaries.

Ben’s first novel, The Kraken’s Curse, was located on England’s sunny Dorset coast. His second novel, Walking on Cinders, is set in London and the Chaîne des Puys in the Auverge region of central France a number of years in the future.

A keen reader and storyteller from a very young age, Ben was encouraged to develop his creative skills by the teachers at Melton’s King Edward VII School, which he attended from 2003 - 2010.

Also an enthusiastic performance artist, Ben studied dance before discovering a passion for musical theatre with the Melton Musical Theatre Company, where he now enjoys roles both on stage and as a member of the committee.

Two years ago Ben became the presenter of a weekly country music show on 103 The Eye, a popular local community and internet radio station.

“What I like about radio,” says Ben, “is its ability to reach so many people. Through my show I’m able to share my favourite music and from listener feedback I know how the music I broadcast can have an immediate effect on hearts and minds.”

Clearly Ben is a young man of many talents; in 2006 he set up a publicly funded community venture to benefit young people, facilitating their involvement in performance and production. In recognition of this work and his other activities for the Melton community, Ben was recently presented with a Young Citizen’s Award. He has also received an Open University Yass Award for his academic achievements.
