Favorite Book: Poisonwood Bible, God of Small Things

About Me:: I never imagined I would ever write a book! I always enjoyed writing, but professionally I have been a teacher and para-educator for almost 30 years. The idea of a mystical African-American woman caring for Jewish refugee children all came to me in a dream--a dream so vivid, I had no choice but to get it down on paper. Within days, I had my setting: war-torn London during the Holocaust of WWII. Of course, I didn't want my historical-fiction novel to bore my audience of 4th-6th graders, so I threw in a little bit of magic, tied with a ribbon of mystery. Nettie Parker's Backyard also contains important data regarding slavery and prejudice in the American south. Always the teacher, lessons about other kinds of intolerance are tackled as well, illustrating to children that we must accept and embrace our differences, rather than let them separate us.

You asked me about having your book reviewed and wanting it posted at Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but 'not' wanting it posted there if it is a negative review. Hmmm??? My best answer to that would be whoever or wherever you advertise for people to read your book in exchange for a review is to possibly make a statement to that effect? I belong to www.librarything.com They have Early Reviewers Giveaways - where authors give away so many books to people that are interested in it,and they also have a "Member Giveaway", where anyone can give books away. However, the 'catch' there is they have a disclaimer that states the review can be positive OR negative.you are only required to post a review either way. A lot of sites are like that. This is what makes me think if you post your book as a giveaway anywhere, 'you' put in a disclaimer stating if they feel negatively about the book, maybe have them contact you? Or make a statement saying "If you don't like my book, and would be posting a negative review, then please refrain from posting any reviews". I don't know if there is a legality involved with requiring 'only' positive reviews or not????

I would address this entire group this question. I am SURE it has to have come up before.

You know, sometimes negative reviews can turn out positive. The person who did not like the book may go on rambling about what they did not like about the book and it may appeal to other readers! Negative reviews are not always bad.

Where are you thinking of and who are you thinking of having review your book? What genre is it? I would definitely post this question publicly on the site, or even on other 'reviewers' sites. GOOD question!
