Dan Porter - The Chaotic Reader

Profile Information

Favorite Book
The Brothers K by David James Duncan or House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski depending on when you ask me.
About Me:
I read and review books. I proofread manuscripts. I write stories. I'm addicted to baseball. I prefer the company of a good book to that of most people, but I can talk to almost anyone about almost anything if so moved. I can feign interest if not so moved…for a while, anyway. I frequently think in song lyrics.

Like most people my age, I began learning to read in first grade. I say began because every book I read teaches me to read more fully. I became a Reader the summer I turned eleven, when I almost severed the middle toe of my left foot. I know; it takes talent to get just that one without lopping off a few of the others in the process. Anyway, I was laid up all summer, unable to do anything but read, so I read the entire set of Mother West Wind Stories my grandmother owned. I've been hooked on books and reading ever since. I've gone through a few phases as to favorite genres. Somewhere in my forties, I decided I needed to read some of the classics I should have read in school, but never got around to. Now I’m constantly on the lookout for great novels.

The more I read, the more of a "book snob" I seem to become. I have very definite likes, dislikes, and pet peeves about the books I read, and I'm never hesitant to discuss them. I enjoy discovering new authors. Whether they’re new to being published or just new to my reading experience, I like to share them with others through my reviews and by promoting them on the social networking sites where I’m active.

Hi, I wanted to greet you as I just joined the website.  I have recently published a FREE (donation based) eBook and I would be thrilled if you included a review on your site.  Here is a ditty about it:

The generous seas do roam vividly,

And sacred words spoken earnestly.

People suffer and people go to war,

I just hope these words will go afar.

On 26-4-2013 I published a FREE book,

Indeed a feat of altruism, no crook!

I suffer in silence in every moment.

I have no money to publish a stunt.

I was just hoping for word-of-mouth

And email propagation as loudmouth.

Book is at: http://bookbooster.com/newage.htm

I accept feedback just at: percarus@hotmail.com

Hi, I came across your blog, and I thought you would be the perfect person to contact.

My name is Jay Siva, the founder of EZBuyButton.com, an easy 'buy book' widget for authors. I'm contacting you today because I think you and your readers would love to know about the EZBuyButton widget I've created.

It is the most advanced 'buy now' widget for selling books. I make it free for authors and publishers, worldwide, to quickly and easily create and use our EZBuyButton widget to place on their website or blog to immediately increase the sales of their books, especially if their books are listed for sale in more than one retail store. I made it super easy, with just a few clicks they just copy & paste a piece of code onto their website/blog, and they're done.

The widget allows website visitors to select which device they'd like to use to read the author's book, and then select their preferred retail store that they'd like to purchase the book from. It also geolocates the visitor's location and will send the visitor to the correct country specific retail store so that they can buy the author's book. The widget is also fully customizable, and the author will have access to detailed real-time statistics of the use of their widget.

I would like to invite you to visit my website, and try out the EZBuyButton widget. I hope you find that my widget will be useful to you and your readers, including all the authors, literary agents, and publishers you're in contact with.

My website is http://www.ezbuybutton.com.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them for you. Thank you for your time.

kindest regards,
Jay Siva

Hi, Dan!

I've just checked out your blog and I'm now following you via GFC. I saw some interesting books among the ones you've reviewed, so I'm going to check it more often.

My blog is All Fantasy Worlds It's quite new, but I'm trying to make it grow. For instance, I plan to participate in different challenges or projects. Maybe this idea can help you too... When I get some free time this week-end, I'm going to sign up for this one: http://evie-bookish.blogspot.ro/2012/12/2013-tbr-pile-reading-challenge-sign-ups.html. I think it might bring some new visitors and followers.

Keep in touch!

Hi Dan:  Did I respond to your friend request. If not, I will as soon as I figure it out. I've received so many e-mails from people on this site it's incredible. I've been working hard to get the new book on Smashwords and finally accomplished that so will have more time to catch up on things like this. I do want to connect with people. And thanks again for doing the review.

Hey, Dan! Thanks for inviting me here. I'm a little lost right now, but it looks promising. Is it a combination of Facebook and Goodreads?

Like for Like is Useless, Link for Link is Priceless

In Google's eyes at least, follow for follow and like for like carry almost no weight. However, every site that links back to your page lends your site more weight, thats SEO. Blogrolls that link back to your page and vice versa, are what the Google bots pay attention to. Each blog that links to yours becomes part of a web that will push you up in page ranking on Google and increase your traffic. So, let's do it! If you think my website (a show of…See More
