- About Me:
- I retired after 25 years of teaching. I'm starting to miss the whole school culture. Not only do I miss teaching and my students, I miss working with other teachers, and I miss being politically active in my local union. I volunteer for a wide range of organizations, mostly political, but it's feels different. It's not the same connection you have with your students. I decided to try a couple new adventures that connect to my passion for teaching and educational reform. One, I just started a blog about how how to use children's and young adult books to foster thoughtful discussions and create social change. I write a little bit about my philosophy of democratic education and our responblitiy to empower students to create visions of a better world. I write about how I created a democratic classroom and helped my students become agents of social change. I am looking forward to exchanging ideas and discussing democratic educational and education reform with others. With all the emphasis on testing and a sometimes hostile political climate how do teachers retain their academic freedom? I am also starting a tutoring business. But I will always find time to blog and hope discuss these issues with others.

One night she comes upon an old painting in an antique store and is compelled to purchase it. When she brings it home an image of a young woman appears in the sketch and then magically materializes in her apartment. Emylene nick-names her 'Poinsettia' and they soon become fast friends.
